A little less "Copa" and a little more "Cabana" Halloween on the Fantasy!

Well my son just had his follow up x ray this morning and we did not receive good news. It showed that his pnuemothorax is larger than when he was discharged. The doctor said it might be something as simple as him taking a larger breath for the X-ray although regardless it should have been getting smaller. :(The good news is it hasn't completely collapsed and it is just a slow leak which can still heal on its own. The doctor could not guarantee that he would not need another chest tube but we are praying really hard! He has another follow up in a week and a half and will get his stitches out and hopefully some good news and NOT ANOTHER CHEST TUBE! He is feeling and looking better so that is something... we have to count our blessings

Nate on the other hand is NOT looking or feeling better. The drugs he is on suppresses the immune system so he is catching everything that is going around... which adds to his fatigue. Today is also the last day that we had to decide if we wanted to stay with this cruise or change our date. We decided to stay and take our chances. We do have a safety net with my poor Evan since his was not a pre-existing condition, if we had to cancel we are still covered under insurance. I go and see the cardiologist on Monday and I'm not looking forward to that as my blood pressure has steadily been rising over the last few weeks!

I am being optimistic though and I am going to buy some new luggage today and start packing. ::yes::

So stay tuned for some positive updates on how everyone is doing great. :surfweb:

Char, honey, you know I am so sorry that you are all going through these illnesses and stress. I am still praying really hard that you still get to cruise (and not just for the selfish reason of wanting to see you all again) as you obviously really need a holiday

Fingers crossed for you guys that things get better. It's never easy dealing with 1 illness, let alone 3.

Hope everyone starts to get a back on the track to (at least resonable) health. pixiedust: (this little guy worked his magic to get Janice her mickey mail docs - let's hope he brings you good news as well).

Okay, this is not the update I was hoping to find!!! :( :worried:

Geez, you guys need a freakin' break! :rolleyes2

I will continue to pray for you all pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Should I stay or should I go now
If I go there will be trouble
An if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go

I vote go! Or at least that’s my wish anyway.pixiedust:
I have been biting my fingernails over the last few weeks not knowing if this trip is a go or not. So to carry on from my last post I had my appointment with the cardiologist and I have to say it did not go as I had hoped for:sad2:…nothing terrible but I was not happy. He was a very nice doctor and was very thorough with gathering all my health history. I did tell him that I had past issues with high blood pressure years ago and that I did not take the prescribed medication but controlled it with diet and exercise… that is until a few weeks ago. He explained that he would need to do a stress test, EKG, blood work and an ultrasound of my kidneys. He prescribed me bp meds but I told him that I probably would not take them. I bargained explaining it was the stressful last few weeks and that’s why it’s been climbing but I would be fine soon as I got on that ship! He wasn’t budging though… I asked “IF” I decided to take the meds, could I drink?…and his answer was that I shouldn’t. Well I threw up my hands and said “oh great! I’m going on a cruise and I WILL be drinking”. He said nurses and doctors are the worst to treat and then he said “YOU are stressing ME out!” So he went on to explain the stress test and that he would not do the old people test on me… I said I was fine with the old people test and he said “that would be shameful!” Anyway my test is next week so I thought I better cram for the test:teacher: and I’ve been working out on the elliptical on my breaks at work. Well my first time on that torturous device I thought I would die after 3 minutes :faint:but I stayed on for 9 more. The only reason I stayed on was because there was someone else in the gym and I didn’t want to look as pathetic as I actually was! I could not get past that 12 minute mark last week. So last night I think I scared my co workers after letting them know I would be at the gym and said if I wasn’t back on the unit in 15 minutes to bring the crash cart! :crazy2:I lasted a whole 19 minutes so I think I have a good chance at passing the test.

Just this past weekend we went to see friends of ours that moved up north recently. They are really out in the boonies in cottage country. This friend is also a hairdresser so we went up for our pre cruise hair cuts and did a little fishing and boating while we were there. So Saturday night after supper just as we are about to settle down with some wine and a board game my Luke starts wailing. He was holding his side doubled over in pain and couldn’t lie down or stand up and I couldn’t get near him to touch him. This went on for about 10 minutes and didn’t let up. My Luke NEVER complains so you guessed it, we head to the nearest hospital….45 minutes away:headache:. We were there for 4 hours and had blood work and xrays and it turned out to be nothing thank goodness. :thumbsup2I have to say that we are not a bunch of hypochondriacs and I can’t remember the last time any of my family have had to go to the ER prior to these last few months, I think this may have even been Lukes first visit ever and he’s 9! He was the only one in our household that did not have an ER visit in the last 2 months so I guess he just didn’t want to be left out.:lmao:

Here is one of my Luke fishing… before his hospital visit.

This was our view

Here’s one of Nate and Gabe on the dock

So earlier this week I noticed my watch was not working… my Mickey Mouse watch that I bought on my cruise 2 years ago.:sad1: I knew that it wasn’t the battery since I JUST had it replaced 2 months ago. I just found it funny since part of…or I should a LOT of my stress has been wondering whether we would be on this cruise or not and I seemed to be getting all these “signs” that we should not be going. It has just been a comedy of errors surrounding this cruise. My watch is at the jewelers right now getting fixed so I should it have it back in time for the cruise.

This morning my Evan had another chest x-ray and a follow up appointment with the surgeon and to get his stitches out. Well we got our first bit of good news! The pneumothorax has healed over and he is good to go on the cruise!!! :dance3::cool1::cheer2:So now we just have to wait on Nate, his appointment with his specialist is this Friday but I’m very optimistic that he will be cleared to go… he is feeling much better… not at 100% but well enough to go he thinks. So as long as I don’t die during my stress test all should be good for us to leave a week later! I have a lot to do since I’ve left everything to the last minute… I need to get my magnets going, packing, lots of shopping! I don’t know where I’m going to fit work in but for the first time since this ridiculousness started I feel we can start to look forward to this trip! See… I told you my next update would be a positive one! :thumbsup2

Hi Kelsey

So earlier this week I noticed my watch was not working& my Mickey Mouse watch that I bought on my cruise 2 years ago.:sad1: I knew that it wasnt the battery since I JUST had it replaced 2 months ago. I just found it funny since part of&or I should a LOT of my stress has been wondering whether we would be on this cruise or not and I seemed to be getting all these signs that we should not be going. It has just been a comedy of errors surrounding this cruise. My watch is at the jewelers right now getting fixed so I should it have it back in time for the cruise.

Now, you see, I see this as a sign that you should go - it is telling you that you need to go on the cruise and buy more jewellery ;)

So we are just waiting on Nate to get the all-clear now? And then is the trip definitely a 'GO' :confused3

You know I have a feeling that even if the doctor recommended that he not go he still would. He's kinda like me.... non compliant and stubborn! :lmao:

I'm confident that it is a go!:dance3:

Well, I'm glad to hear a little bit of good news :goodvibes ::yes::

I did all those tests this past summer  My one tip for the stress test, get to your target heart rate as soon as possible cus then you only need to keep going for about a minute after that ;) It takes more out of you but then you can get off much earlier! I did the whole test (minus all the damn imaging) in under 6 minutes! The poor guy next to me was suffering through at 21 minutes because he couldn't get to his THR :sad2: He was super grumpy and was yelling "That's enough!! I'm getting off this stupid machine!" :lmao:

I am probably more stubborn than Nate and I would totally go too, no matter what that doc said :rolleyes1

Good for you telling your doc no meds! People need to stand up for themselves and not rely on everything a doctor says! You know your body best! :thumbsup2

When I told my rheumy back in 2010 that I wasn't going back on my Lupus meds, he was SHOCKED  He couldn't possible fathom why I didn't want to take them. I just knew my body was okay and was going to recover on it's own. Of course, I felt differently this summer cus my body just wasn't rebounding but I knew it and took the meds ;)

Crossing fingers, toes and everything else that everyone is healthy and that you all have a FANTASTIC cruise pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

The Mickey Watch is more than a sign, it's a BILLBOARD, one of those electronic Hi Definition with a round the CLOCK Disney Cruise Line comercial :rolleyes1

I'm glad things are turning out OK, just buy a new Disney watch for every member of the family. :cool1:

So Nate has his appointment with the specialist this morning and unfortunately it was not good news… surprise surprise.:coffee: So she recommended that he NOT go on the trip…although the nurse that took his history who had just gone on her first Disney cruise this past January said if it was her, she would go. We liked her a lot.::yes:: He has more testing to go through but overall he is feeling much better! I think that the doctors HAVE to err on the side of caution because if anything were to ever happen it could fall back on them saying that “the doc said I could go”. Anyway we are going to go anyway… despite his outbreak…despite my (possible) heart attack… despite Evan’s lung collapsing…AND despite my Mickey Mouse watch breaking!

So to make us feel better we did a little shopping after the appointment. Evan got a new pair of sunglasses, and I got a new bathing suit and my formal night dress.princess: Tomorrow we hope to finish off and get Luke a new suit and few more summer clothes oh and maybe our Halloween costumes if we find something that we like… if not I have to go dress shopping again for semi formal night.;) I can’t WAIT… 12 more days until we leave! And NOTHING else is going to happen between now and then! :dance3:

Can't buy watches for the fam Manny... just blew the budget on my formal night dress ;)
