Well, I am not running much now, due to injuries that have sort of forced me to stop (I joined DisBoards and created my screen name long before I was plagued with injuries, BUT I do still love to run, just can't run as much now. BUT, my DH is an avid runner, so he will be running a lot on our trip. (he's running a half-marathon this weekend! :cheer2: ). My DH will be running on deck 4 for sure on all the sea days, and on our port days where we don't have a FULL day packed. But, as for running AT the ports, I don't think he is going to run at the ports, unless with one of our shorter port days planned, there is an obvious place he can go run at the port while the rest of us are on the ship. So, I'm sure your DH and my DH will see each other on Deck 4, and I FOR SURE will be on Deck 4. I probably will just be running like 3 - 4 laps only and then just walking the rest. :)

We actually wanted to take Vueling over Ryan Air, but I tried for weeks to book our tickets online, and the website would not let me book (could have been "user error!"), anyway, I just got frustrated with their website, and so booked on Ryan Air instead. But, their prices were pretty much the same, and they both seemed to have the same strict rules, so I didn't feel like I was going to a worse option. But, I do remember Vueling seemed just a BIT less rigid with their rules, so that is why I wanted to book with Vueling... So, I don't have any advice or tips about Vueling. But, I'm sure someone here does. :)

I have never used Vueling myself, but my cousin works in a Portuguese airport in Faro and she suggested I use Vueling as she thinks they are very good.

We booked our flight from BCN-Paris post cruise on Iberia operated by Vueling. Because ours is an Iberia ticket we get the Iberia contract of carriage which means we each get 1 free checked bag (50lbs) and 1 carryon bag, plus a small item like a purse. Seems pretty fair. Hopefully it will go smoothly!

On the other note, I think I have finalized our Cinque Terre day. After much thought, I've decided to do Vernazza and Monterosso. We are going to take the 10:06 (or 10:12, depending which site is accurate!) train that gets there around 10:30. We are still going to get off the ship on the first available non-excursion tender just in case they end up having another earlier train. If they don't, we can take our time getting our tickets and walk around the town, maybe get an early start on the gelato! In Vernazza we are planning to stop at this breakfast place recommended in Rick Steve's book for pastries and pesto bruschetta (yum!) before our hike. I decided it will be worth it to do the entire hike from Vernazza to Monterosso. I read a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor, and the consensus seems like it has some challenges but is overall doable for everyone from young through elderly if you are in pretty decent shape and wear sneakers, so I think we can handle it. We'll see! Great pictures to be had at a minimum. Once we get to Monterosso we're going to alot 2 hours for a leisurely Italian lunch and get some yummy pesto pastas and local fish, then spend about 2.5 hours on the beach. Around 5:00 we'll head to the station (right at the beach) where there are some focaccerias there so we can get some focaccia bread and pizza to go (can you tell my birthday on this day is revolved around food!). We'll take the 5:30 train back to La Spezia. I was debating taking a later one but I don't want to stress about being late for the ship since we have Palo dinner to get ready for at 8:30, plus I can't imagine missing the ship when we have our big Rome day the following morning.

Would love to hear opinions on my outline of this day, if anyone thinks it sounds good or if I should change anything!

I think it your plan sounds fantastic...we will probably do something fairly similar, except I don't know about walking the whole trail from Monterosso to Vernazza. How old are your kids? I don't know if my 6-year-old would be up for it. We'll probably play it by ear, again...maybe we'll decide to do it once we get there. A friend of mine spent a few days in Monterosso some years ago, and said it was one of her favourite places of all time (and she has been almost everywhere).

We aren't travelling with any kids, its just me and my dad. However, in reading the trip advisor reviews of this trail, there was a least one that I read that said their child (either age 4 or age 6, I can't remember) did it just fine.

If we were just adults, I would totally do it too...sounds very cool. I'll jump on Trip Advisor tonight and read some reviews. Thanks!

We are also using Vueling Airlines for our Barcelona to Paris flight after debarkation. We paid for one extra bag and have European size carry on bags.

What a day. DS12 ended up breaking his wrist at all star baseball practice last night and getting splinted at an urgent care. He saw an orthopedic doctor and got a cast on it today. He sees a pediatric specialist Wednesday. He tore a piece of bone/tendon and fractured his wrist. The doctor last night said his wrist could possibly just heal on it's own with only a splint, but the doctor today said if it wasn't casted he could need surgery if he injured it again. Unfortunately they do not do any casts that are waterproof. We bought a special bag to cover it for showers. We are really hoping he has it off in time for the cruise. The doctor said with how fast kids heal, he may be out of it quicker than the 3 weeks he estimates. If not, he'll have to keep it on the entire cruise. Not so sure he'll be allowed at the water park in Turkey. We have a beach day planned after sightseeing in Athens too. I have a 16 year old son and neither has ever had a broken bone or needed stitches and this was the last thing we expected. Just really glad it's not worse! The doctor even said he can go to overnight football camp he has had booked since last year and watch/run drills with no contact. Not so sure we will let him though. Fortunately he's not in pain and was able to freely move his hand/wrist up and down and side to side. Had it not been for swelling, we'd have never known he needed an xray. Here's hoping for no more pre-cruise unwanted surprises!

DD (13) is going through her outfits and is saying she needs to know this minute :-)rolleyes2) which night of the cruise is formal night. I cannot recall seeing that info yet - anyone have a guess on formal and semi-formal nights?

    Thank you!

Hope your son heals quickly! Is there a reason they wouldn't put him in a waterproof cast?

We had a stressful week with my son also. He fell during his playoff basketball game with ONE minute left to play. He landed on his elbow and was in a lot of pain. We took him to urgent care and they took xrays. There was a shadow on the bone so they put him in a splint. Had to take him to the orthopedic and he said no cast would be necessary and that it wasn't broken but most likely the bone is bruised, which can take 4-8 weeks to heal! Who knew!

The injured elbow was on his "writing" arm, which really stressed me out because 2 days later he was having his math final. Kind of hard to do math calculations without being able to write. The school got him a "scribe" but he said it was a little confusing trying to communicate what he wanted written down and try to do the calculations...ugh!! So happy this week is over!

Not sure I'm looking forward to any of my boys playing basketball on the ship or any sport before we leave for that matter!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully he will have his cast off before the cruise. I wonder if somehow they could put a waterproof cast on (even though they said they don't have that), like if you could find a different orthopedic doctor that would do that? I know they have them.

Well, let's hope for fast healing!!! Poor little guy!! I sure hope he will be fine by the cruise!

If he tore a tendon that will take longer to heal than a broken bone (but hopefully the tendon is fine!!) I'd much rather have a broken bone than a torn tendon for sure (if I had to choose!). But, a fracture typically, it's 6-8 weeks, but it might be small fractures (if they are clean fractures) can take less, and it sounds like this might be the case for your son!! I hope so!!! And, children do heal faster, I think, so that is a positive. Hopefully they can figure out a waterproof cast of some sort, or some sort of way he can do all the water activities if he is still in a cast on the cruise. Hang in there!!

If it's any consolation, three out of our six Disney cruises we've been on, either DH or I was injured literally JUST before we left for the cruise or on the cruise itself (injuries were broken bones, torn ligaments, bone bruises... yes, sounds really crazy, but really was just dumb luck!) And, we just had to roll with the punches, and alter a lot of plans. But, I always say if I had to be injured, I'd rather be dealing with an injury on a Disney cruise ship than having to deal with an injury at home! Just because everything just seems so much better no matter what life has thrown you when you're on a Disney Cruise ship! :) Although, I know it's way different for 12 year old, than it is for an adult.

Hang in there... Keep us posted! I sure hope it all heals fast and all will be good on the ship!

Oh man, sorry to hear about this, too. But, so glad it's not a broken bone. A bone bruise can hurt just as bad as a broken bone (I know!), and takes as long as a broken bone to heal (which I also didn't know, until I had a bone bruise!), but the good news is that with a bone bruise, you can still be mobile, but it just hurts.

If it is a bone bruise, he should be feeling lots better by cruise, and will probably just have twinges of pain here and there, but it does get better each week, but does take time to heal. So, he will need to be gentle, but it sounds like he already is. :) Glad he made it through is Math final!

Ok, nobody else is allowed to get hurt before, or during the cruise!!! :thumbsup2

By the way, just a tip... if anyone needs to use ice on the plane for an injury (to ice the injury), you can't get gel ice packs through security, BUT those first aid ice packs that you twist and they suddenly get cold, you can get those through security, because they aren't liquid or gel before you twist them. They just have these beads inside of them that turn cold instantly once you twist them. So, if anyone needs to ice an injury on the plane that is how you do it! With one of my injuries that I got just a week before we left for our Panama Canal cruise (with Disney), I needed to ice for the 6 hour flight to Florida, and my orthopedic doctor told me I could get those instant ice packs through security with no problem! I would not have thought of that on my own! I was so grateful for the suggestion. They only stay cold for 30 minutes, so I took a roller carry-on suitcase, and filled it with those instant first aid ice packs so I had PLENTY of ice packs to ice my injury on the plane. Went through security with no problems at all! And, I had some left over, so when we flew back, didn't have a problem again with security and the instant ice packs, so they went through fine at two different major airports.

Anyway, just a tip for anyone who might need to deal with icing on a plane!! :thumbsup2
