I compared BWV, didn't see any differences. I hold my breath every year that they will mess with Food & Wine or Early December, my 2 favorite times to go.

Happy Holidays!

Okay, one thing I notice, there is now a Standard and Preferred at Saratoga Springs. Anyone know what this is? I haven't been through the whole thing but it's completely new.

Interesting. I wonder if close to Disney Springs is more.

Do not know what is going on at SSR or even why, e.g., was there some overwhelming demand or lack thereof for some rooms there in comparison to others that a major change was necessary? I think not. Also, from the point spreads the change appears to affect a large number of rooms not just a small number in the Disney Springs area. The decrease and increase are both significant, indicating the number of rooms that are now standard and preferred are both large numbers; if only a small number of rooms had changed it would be more like the treehouse change from a few years back where the treehouses went up a lot but everything else went down only a very little.

Possibly this is a move to try to get more bargain hunting members to stay there as the standard points are now in the range of OKW.

There is also a minor change at BWV: B/P view two-bedroom Premier Season is going up from 470 points a week in 2016 to 477 points in 2017. This is the only change I spotted on any of the resorts, other than SSR's major change.

Wouldn't a corresponding move have to be made elsewhere to keep the number of points constant over the year? That's not a very big move though so perhaps the other change is only in one season.

After sleeping on it, given the massive amount of change in the point charts, I believe that the feature pools and Disney Springs view will fall into the preferred category. It seems to have split the resort into two. The 2016 point value is exactly in the middle of the two new Standard and Preferred values. It remains to be seen whether they will designate individual rooms or whole buildings.

By Disney Springs area I'm guessing you all are talking about Congress Park, would that be correct?

There are 18 buildings in Saratoga Springs. If you take the four in Congress Park, three in The Springs and the two next to the feature pool in the Paddock, that's 9 buildings, exactly half. That seems to account for the change.

I could also see taking that one building in front of the leisure pool and putting that in Preferred while taking the one building in the Springs not directly adjacent to a pool and moving it into Standard.

On the morning of December 24, 2015, we obtained the newly released 2017 point charts and while entering the data into our points calculator noticed the new categories added to Saratoga Springs. For clarification purpose, we telephoned Disney Vacation Club Member Services and were told (after lengthy research by the CM) that 3 areas were included in the preferred view.

Because of conflicting information being posted, I have just spoken with Member Services (who again didn't know anything of the change) and confirmed that only 2 areas, Springs and Congress Park are included as preferred locations. I was also told that if you pay the extra points, you are guaranteed to be in one of those two areas but not guaranteed to be in a requested area. You can certainly request a specific area but it will be subject to availability at check in.

I'm with you. I feel sure eventually they'll change but for now I'm so grateful they haven't. I keep thinking it's only a matter of time.

An increase needs an offsetting decrease somehwere at BWV and I have found none. The rest of the chart is exactly the same as before. The premier season increase is a one point increase per night for 22 nights of the year in the boardwalk and pool/garden view 2BRs. There are about 108 preferred 2BRs affected so the point increase could potentially be over 2300 points.

On the surface, the single change at BWV doesn't appear to be point-neutral. I did not see any corresponding decline anywhere on the BWV point chart. There are 149 two-bedroom villas at BWV, which means this change could potentially generate (149 x 22) 3,278 points for the length of the 22 day Premier Season. That isn't a lot of points, considering that BWV has about 4,872,175 total points.

Edited to add: Forgot to take into account only Boardwalk/Preferred villas are affected by this change. See Drusba's post above.

Springs, Congress Park and Grand Stand are all Preferred locations while Paddock and Carousel are Standard locations.

Then this would be a wholesale change of the points requirements giving far more points to Saratoga Springs than what was originally specified. Something doesn't smell right...

So some pertinent information from the 2015 Notices for Saratoga Springs:

Pursuant to Section 721.13(3)(c)1, Florida Statutes, the total number of 7-day annual use availability periods currently registered with the State of Florida is 45,288.

And there are 888 vacation homes in Saratoga Springs (studios and 1 bedrooms as part of a lockoff are not counted separately).

So Dividing 45288 by 52 gives 870.9231. This leaves approximately 17 vacation homes unaccounted for. This is 1.9% of the vacation homes.

So the 2016 point charts should cover those 45288 use availability use periods and give a total number of points for that usage. My understanding is that any changes from year to year have to equal that total number of points. It seems my understanding is not complete however since given Daddio's statement of what is Preferred at Saratoga, and looking at the 2017 point chart, it seems to me that the total number of points has increased.

What am I missing?
