Since posting early today, I have finishing completely going through my little boy's room-clothes, closet, toys, everything!-and gotten rid of 3 large laundry baskets full of clothes and toys!

I have also gone through the majority of my kitchen cabinets and gotten rid of almost a box full of dishes, lids, cups, etc :) Had to sit down a minute and rest before I'm off to finish the kitchen cabinets before supper!

I will complete destashing this year because I am sick and tired of cleaning it, moving it, and seeing it if I don't love it and use it!

DS has been found! Whew! I had to go on my hands and knees peering into every single cubbie in the boys room and spied it way back on top of a bin.

And nope, it didn't have the missing goodwill list with it!

yay! You made great progress! I haven't started yet because I have to remove all the Christmas stuff. Once that's done it is GAME ON here.

:lmao: That will probably turn up 2 days after you give up and file your taxes! Glad you found his DS though, we have also had that mad search for it.

I condensed the kids' dress up bins from 3 down to 1-2. I need to see if I can fit it all in one box. Got rid of a bag of trash and broken bits from the basement and many boxes & papers from around the house.

Our hope chest had become a laundry dumping ground & got that under control. I uncovered a pile of sweatjackets that DD wanted to donate so will add those to the boxes.

Next up, the computer desk so we can move DD's old computer downstairs to replace the one that died.

This is something we need to seriously need to work on around here. We just have so much stuff. My plan is to toss at least 5 things we don't need each day plus go through a shelf, drawer or cabinet each day off of work.

We are starting with clothes. DH went through a lot of his stuff and there's already a giant bag to go to good will. I hope to get through the clothes I have in the closet & my dresser tomorrow - there's bound to be more for good will. I can drop all the clothes to good will one night during the week.

I'm in! It's a never ending goal to destash and I made significant progress in recent months. I plan to continue until the excess is gone.

Today, we put away all of the holiday stuff in the correct boxes.

I cleaned out under my bed, filed what needed to be and threw out the rest. I also cleaned out the dresser next to my bed which always ends up full of random papers. :confused3

DH will be gone a week in January so I took that week off of work to totally de-stash and de-clutter. Having a full week with the kids in school and him gone will give me plenty of time to get things in order. :thumbsup2

My main areas of focus are:

    closets
    bathrroms- unders sinks and drawers
    basement :scared1:
    my dressers

My kitchen stays uncluttered as we just use it too much to have it any other way.

In fact, I'm going to get off the computer and do my closet right now!! :teeth:

Well I have until April to find the list since it's for my mom and she files at the last minute or on an extension so sometimes even later. Or at least recreate the list. If I have to recreate it, I'll need all the other lists back from her so hopefully she's got them all typed up nice and neat and could just email it to me. I know what stuff we donated since most of it's been done in the past month or so and it's the stuff I've been tripping over all year! LOL

I went through the entire coloring cabinet and every single notebook that was in there. No luck on the list but I found someone has stuffed all sorts of stuff in there including some photos! Plus a bunch of stuff from a Disney trip last year. I'm betting ODD but it could have been DH too. I think I'm going to address it as a PSA to them both. ;)

This week my goal is to get rid all the coloring books that are piled up in the coloring cabinet. It is stuffed full of things and needs to go.

May I join you? I've never paid attention to the previous destashing threads because I had my head in the sand, but organizing my life is a goal for this year! I figure it'll be easier to keep things organized if I have less stuff....

    Any tips for a newbie?

I need to destash too so I am in! I started in youngest DDs room today and will finish up tomorrow. I went through all her toys this evening and got 2 bags out and will do her clothes, shoes and books tomorrow. Then to do oldest DDs room. I hope I can get both DDs rooms done tomorrow before moving onto the rest of the house.

I posted that I had finished my son's room and most of the kitchen, but I just finished the rest of the kitchen so now I can go to bed! I refused to give up before the kitchen was done :) I was even able to organize my lower cabinets well enough that I can store my seldom used coffeepot and toaster in the cabinets and give myself an actual prep area for cooking! It looks so nice that I am excited to keep it that way.

Tomorrow, I am tackling the storage areas in our living room (bookcases, free-standing cabinets, entertainment center, etc.). I go back to work Tuesday from Christmas break so tomorrow is my last chance to devote a lot of time to this for a bit.

Still slowly but surely chugging along here. We broke down all of our boxes and cardboard, took it to recycling and now the Christmas stuff is all packed away. As always, there's the inevitable pile of papers to shred and we took down DD's train table (which was really just her dumping place) in the living room, so now there's a lot more space.

DD is complaining that her uniform pants don't fit (she's gone through 2 sizes since August) so I think this weekend is going to be a great closet try-on and destash. She's shooting up so fast it's crazy, she's only 9 and I have a feeling by next year we'll be wearing the same size shoe. :scared1:

Count me in !!! I start every year with good intentions, then reality kicks in, and BOOM -- it's June and I have more junk than I started the year with. :headache:

This year I'm going to use this thread to keep me motivated. Today I tackle the Christmas decorations !!!

this may be minor to some but for me it's huge. I've managed to make it through the post Christmas sales and clearances without buying anything. Not one single thing! :cool1:

I even went into Target today and got exactly what I went for and nothing else!

This is part of my destashing as I haven't ever made it through a clearance season without bringing more stuff into the house.

I've even talked DH out of several purchases that he wanted to make that were very unnecessary (stuff for the kids).

I took 2 boxes of outgrown clothes, toys and halloween costumes to goodwill today. I've had them ready to go for awhile, it's gotten to be where those boxes were the clutter so it feels good to get them all the way out of the house.

I'm in! We have a VERY limited space that I now need to fit a desk and legal books in, so I'll need all the space I can get! Can't wait to get started!!!

I think I have joined or at least read the destash threads for the past few years. I feel like destashing is an ongoing process, at least it is for me. Right now it is just DH and I, and we bought a pretty small house when we got married (its about 1400 sq ft including a finished basement, but we have no attic and NO storage space) we have plenty of room for the baby that is coming this summer but if we are going to stay here (seriously thinking about selling and buying bigger) we need to constantly stay on top of destashing so we'll have room for all the baby's things.

The past week I have destashed the holiday decorations (not just Christmas, but other holidays too) and put all the stuff we never have room to put up or don't use in either the yard sale pile or the donate pile. I have a ton of stuff saved up for the next yard sale that will hopefully be this spring, and I also have a ton of stuff to donate. Hoping to find somewhere besides Goodwill or Salvation Army to donate to as ours are overwhelmed with donations, especially this time of year. I also went through my closet and have the equivalent of a garbage ball full of clothes that I never wear. Definitely need to work on the plastic storage in the kitchen, our cabinet is a nightmare that DH and I never want to deal with LOL.

Good luck to everyone this year - you can do it!
