Good News from New Orleans

Anyone want to share some good stories from New Orleans?

Here's one:
Kenner, LA is a suburb of New Orleans. For those of you that have flown out of New Orleans you are in Kenner when you exit I-10 to go to the airport.

Mayor Philip L. Capitano was just on TV. Boy does he have a handle on what he is doing. They were able to get people to their pumping stations to keep them working so they got the water out right away. About 90% of Kenner was under water.

They showed big plows out in the streets getting rid of the debris. He said Walmart has been keeping them all supplied with water and the equivalent of MREs. There's a big Walmart and a Sam's in Kenner.

There is even power in a small part of Kenner but no water yet. The mayor said he did not want people coming back until they have water.

I met several people from Kenner recently including Mayor Capitano. I thought he was a very nice man, but now I am impressed with his handling of this mess.

Kenner has a few areas with very, very nice homes, but it has it's share of low income families also. The population is about 70,000.

It is not safe for refugees to go back until police and security services, and also cell phone services, are re-established. Therre may be looters holed up in the house next door waiting to pounce and carjack.

I agree. I am not going back to my home until they have electricity, water, and no dead bodies floating by.

I do think Kenner will have this under control sooner than New Orleans. But I'm in N.O. not Kenner. Mayor Capitano jokingly tried to tell me last week that I'd picked the wrong city to move to. Maybe he was right.

I heard from another friend who is okay. She and her husband stayed for the storm but were able to get to Houston on Wednesday.

I'm dying to know how she accomplished this, but no more word from her.
