Haven't touched my books in 6 mos - need motivation!
I cannot believe it; I just realized that I have not touched my books since right after Christmas. Does anyone else go in fits and spurts like this? I am trying to gear myself up to scrap our spring vacation and DD's recital and I feel un-inspired. Help me DIS friends!

When I get into a slump I take a class at the LSS some new techinque or new product (not that you have to buy it
) but it puts me back in the scrapping mood.

Yep I do, especially if its something you really don't want to work on. My mom is having me do my stepdads hunting pictures and I just really can't get into doing them. Good thing she is paying me but I still can't get the groove into doing them.

i am always like that......always in a slump...
i seem to only scrap on monthly getaways (crops). but i am getting excited because in 3 more days i will be at cku...i still can't believe that it isn't being held in disney again...but oh well...i can still drive to it. classes always provide me with inspiration. and it especially helps to scrap something that you want to...that is why i don't scrap chronigically. if i did that i would never get something done!!! i just look through my pictures until some "speak" to me, or an idea pops into my head. look through a new book or magazine or go to a site and look at some of the galleries...that should do it...hope you bounce back.

I go through slumps too and get tired of doing soccer pictures....AGAIN...or Christmas pictures ....AGAIN.... So now, as some of you know if you read my thread, I have these really cool pictures from Hawaii that I can't wait to scrap and pictures from a cruise ship inspection I went on in December and really looking forward to doing something different. Gee...I guess i'll have to take more vacations so I'll be motivated to get done!!
Seriously tho, that is what gets me excited...new and different pictures as well as new and different items to work with. I just love all my pretty paper!! After taking 3 or 4 weeks off from scrapping I'm back in the mood!! Have fun....you'll get the spirit again!! Karen |

when in a slump - I shop (surprise right), surf 2peas, or flip through a book with layouts in it - and usually something will inspire me to get going on something (even if it isn't what I 'should' be working on - and I do what I want - then it usually flows into doing shat I was suppose to -
good luck getting out of your slump

Do most people scrap in chron order? A couple of years ago, I stopped doing that and it felt so liberating, but then now I look at my books and see big gaping time holes. I am not sure if I care about that or not!

Hey mcnuss...
of course we all do that. For me I just take a break. Although generally the break is enforced by some other commitment and then I can't wait to get back to scrapping. But even when I'm on a roll I'll get to a layout that just isn't inspiring. What I do is first, look around my scrap work area - have I simply let things get out of hand and so can't find what I need? I take a break to clean up. I did this on Saturday. Then if I'm still not motivated to get that particular layout done I just do it. Something simple and journalled but the event is there and I can move on and usually the next thing inspires me. As for the whole chronilogical question? The answer is yes and no. I work on a variety of books so it isn't totally chrono but within the book it is. Ok, that didn't make a lot of sense. So let me try to explain a bit better. I have made the decision to basically scrap for the kids. Special family trips have their own books but otherwise the books I'm working on are essentially "theirs". DS (my oldest) has his football career in a set of books - nothing else in those but within them they are in essentially chronological order although with a few layouts that highlight a specific memory and may have photos from throughout a season. I have Scout books for both kids. CHronological within the series except in the instanace of DS he took a high adventure trip last summer that is a separate book for just that trip. Then I have their "regular" books. I knew trying to go back to baby days would drive me crazy so I started with high school. The books start with the first day of school their freshman year and include everything else in their lives school and non-school. This does mean I end up scrapping many events twice which I thought might be a pain, but because one is a boy and the other a girl I find myself taking different approaches. The idea is that then when they are established in homes of their own (and DH & I are ready to downsize) all of those books will go to them. Memories will be preserved and no one has to worry about cleaning that stack of stuff out of mom & dad's some day! Eventually I'll leap frog back and do middle school, elementary, etc but for now this works. Deb |

For me scrapping is almost a winter sport! LOL! I just can't seem to do it once the weather is nice! I don't like being stuck in doors or missing out on something fun over the summer because I scheduled a class.
For the most part once I start scrapping again I have to organize first. See what I have including going through my pictures. Then once I am done that I seem to be ready! Some times I think a break is a good thing!

NO WAY!!! I would get bored tooooo easy. I like to have a choice, and I jump from book to book. One of the only books I go straight through are my disney trips.
