RSJJ - You asked:

1) kits...you just buy them or (download them for free), and use them as paper/embellishments, like in traditional scrapbooking?

yes, yes and yes.. Kits cost anywhere from $3 to about $8 although I have seen a few for $10.. Very reasonable considering you can use them over and over again.. Also as I told you before there are hundreds of free kits available on the web and yahoo.

2) e-paper/e-cut outs...are those the "kits" you are all talking about? or maybe that's something completely different! and if so, someone please explain that that is! I am not sure what you are referring to.

3) i subscribe to a scrapbooking pack monthly thing, where they send me papers & things for my "traditional" scrapbooking. if i go the digital route...i wouldn't need that subscription, right? since everything will be done on the computer? I've seen a few sites that do the paper monthly kits have now started monthly digital kits, check and see if yours has and how to convert. I dont paper scrap anymore but I know some who do both still.

4) when you do print out your pages...do you print out on 12x12 paper? and just insert it into a regular scrapbook? I print my layouts, usually in 8 x 10 or 8 x 8 although my printer (Canon I990 can print up to 13 x 19).. I just don't like the 12 x 12 size, too big in my opinion.

5) this is an important one! i think! do i need a whole new printer/computer for this? can someone tell me what i would need to be able to do this on my computer? my DH just got a new computer...and had various upgrades (?) and what not...(can you tell, he's the computer genius, not me!) i hate to get into this, and find out that our computer cannot accomodate such things! so with this info, i can ask him if our computer is capable or not.

You need lots of ram and either a large hard drive or the ability to burn CD or DVD's. Since his computer is new and has lots of upgrades I am sure it is fine. You also need some type of graphic program which allows the use of .png files.. Paint Shop, all Photo Shop, Dig Image Pro all use .png files.

Let me know what else you have questions on.

I use MyPublisher.com, you can go to their website and see all their info. http://www.mypublisher.com/default.php. Small paperback pocket books are $9.95 for up to 20 (8 x 6) pages and 80 photos. Hardback books are $29.80 for up to 20 (12 x 9) pages and up to 120 photos. Deluxe Hardcover are $59.80 for 20 (16 x 12) pages and up to 240 photos. I love them because it's really the easiest most convenient thing. I pull my pages in to their free album software, click their order button, it's all sent to them electronically, and about 5 days later my album arrives in the mail. WARNING: I have used them for photos, but I haven't used them for fully scrapped pages yet. As soon as my album is complete, I'm going to use them with fully scrapped pages and I'll post back what I thought. I loved the quality of the photo albums I've done with them and I see no reason the scrapped pages won't be beautiful as long as it's saved as a high resolution image, but I need to test it first.

I've been digiscrapping for a few months and I love it! I still plan to paper scrap for certain things so I'm keeping all my supplies.

There are tons of free kits and elements available! I spent nearly a month collecting as many as I could and just my freebie files have taken 9.97 GB on my computer! I have over 10,000 free files! I'm so impressed with what's available out there for free! I did buy a few absolutely beautiful kits and it's so worth the 5 or 6 dollars since you can use it over and over. At first, I was printing out each LO at Walmart but have realized it's just as cost-effective to have your own book created.

I think Abode Photoshop Elements 3 is probably the most popular program. There is a free 30 day trial available on their site. When I first started I downloaded the program, did a quick tutorial on the concept of layers, downloaded a few free kits from Shabby Princess and was HOOKED! I couldn't believe what I created in a matter of minutes!

I can't wait to see your pics and layouts!

Hands down, Cabo San Lucas! It was just SO beautiful, seeing Lands End and Los Arcos was incredible.

Puerto Vallarta was also a lot of fun because we just played in the surf - the water was wonderful.

Question

Okay I gave it a try today. I don't have any freebies yet and I have never scrapbooked before but I have used other photo software in the past, I just never thought to use it for a scrapbook.

I don't know why I didn't try this sooner.

I used Digital Image Pro 10 to do this. I picked it up today so its a new software for me.

Here's my question: I made my canvas the size of the album I expect to print. I was planning on the $9.95 from mypublisher.com. I was wondering if I should have went 8x10 with the canvas?? Does it matter when I print, does mypublisher make it fit okay in the smaller album if I did go 8x10?

Thanks to everyone that had advice in this thread!

No I don't think mypublisher resizes for you. You should check out their guidelines on the website. They clearly indicate how big you should make your canvas and what amount will be lost. For example you might lose a third of an inch in an 8x10. It's important to get this figured out at the beginning because you don't want to go back and have to resize and crop your LO's to fit into the book.

Your page is adorable! What a great picture. I think MyPublisher has the biggest problem with their small books on sizing. At least from what I've seen. A girlfriend from work did a small book, and some of the photos were cut off a bit, she was doing regular photos though. So, with fully scrapped pages you will do a full bleed to edge layout and it will try and size it close then from there you can position it, but not really resize it. At least not that I've seen. The nice thing about MyPublisher is you can look at the book with their software before you order - so what I've done is saved my layout as a high resolution jpg image and then pulled it into MyPublisher to see if I was losing anything on the edges. If so, I go back to the editable version and make my adjustments, save it and then re-save the jpg again. So, I agree with Sandy22, you want to be working with the right size.

Does anyone know of any other sites besides My Publisher to get those kind of books done? I've seen someone post it here before but I can't seem to find it????

Cass -

Three Scrapateers are doing them now. Here is the link http://**********scrapateers.com/

Also, last year I created an 8X10 album, printed them myself and took Kinko's. They Glue Bound it for me for about $10.00 with a hard front and back cover
