Pool chemical question

Help! Where do you buy your pool chemicals? Anybody have a great place with lower prices? This is our first summer with a pool...Dh thinks he can handle the servicing himself... I vote for a pool boy but dh looks good in his shorts too..LOL....
So do you have a pool service or do you do it yourself???

We are living in Southwestern Illinois... any help will be appreciated!

thanks...

Joan,
We service our own pool and buy our supplies at Pool A Rama and Contintenal Sales both near Chicago.
Thinking of opening your pool already? We usually open ours Memorial Day Weekend but the weather hasn't been warm enough to warrant opening it. Hopefully it will get real hot real soon so we can start to enjoy it.
Good luck to you.

Dh has moved into the house in OFallon, the prior owners had the pool opened last week when he closed on the house. Kids and I are still in California.. where it is a beautiful 79 degrees today. We will start our journey across country in mid June. Look out Illinois! We'll be back home soon!

May I ask is Pool a rama... cute name... a local or franchise company?

Joan,
I think it's a franchise. They have a website www.poolarama.com which lists all of their locations. Good luck to you and the kids on the drive home.

Totally OT, but did you get rid of your old clunker yet? I thought your son's idea of giving it away to a homeless person was so thoughtful.

Cool! Pool a rama... ... any other ideas out there in Disville?

The pool service is about $30 a week.. not including the chemicals.... Dh thinks he can do this himself... he probably can but I was kind of hoping he would relax a bit more this summer and let a pool service handle the extra chores..... Does anyone know if $30 a week is an average price for a mid size heated pool?

btw.. Tina... Jake is keeping the car thru the summer as he will fly back to California to spend 3 weeks with his Ca. buddies. It is all he asked for regarding this big move... it is part of his HS graduation gift. I have contacted a charity that is going to take the car the day before he is going to fly to Illinois. He still would like to hand the pink slip and the keys to a nameless person in need..but I told him it was safer to do it this way. He does have a good heart.

We get ours at Leslie's Pools, they are a national chain. If I see some of the liquid shock cheap somewhere else, I'll pick it up since Leslie's in our area doesn't carry liquid.

Once you have your pool figured out, it's very easy to take care of, just time consuming to skim and vacuum.

whats that 30 bucks include?

Then I'll tell ya if its worth it- chemicals are not expensive if you keep your pool maintained.
