Hi Mika. Hands down, stay on site ... especially with four children. Your trip will be so much more magical, not to mention waaaaaaaaay easier on you, by staying at an on site resort. And there are so many choices in both price and theme, you are sure to find something perfect for you and your family. One of the big bennies is not worrying about transportation. And, on top of all that, you will get the extra magic hours. EMH, to me, is well worth it all by itself. Have an absolutely wonderful time!!!! Well, of course, it is the World ... it's hard not to.

park opening

This thread is great. I'm learning so much. One of the best tips I read before our trip last May was to get to the MK early and see Mickey open the park. Most people I talk to didn't even know this happened. Our kids, DD4 and DD3, LOVED it! They still talk about it a year later.

I have read tips on carrying the quarters and pennies for the "squished pennies." In addition to the film containers and the mini M&M containers, I found that my glucose tablets container is a perfect fit and can carry enough quarters for 16 squished pennies. If you know a diabetic, ask if they have an empty you can have or you can buy one in any drug store. They are not expensive and you can just throw the tablets down the sink or toilet. It is just concentrated sugar, no drugs.

The tip about carrying extra pennies and quarters was a big hit for my kids. The way Disney sets up merchandising at the attractions makes it hard when your kids hound you for gifts after each one. So this is an inexpensive way to let them collect souvereirs

Thank you to everyone for these invaluable tips. Never would I have thought about brining some of these things on our trip (over-the-door organizer, pump hand soap for the kids, night light, etc.). THANK YOU!

Thanks to another poster's tip, I just picked up a three-outlet extension to plug into one of the very few (and usually inconveniently placed) outlets at the hotel. It was very inexpensive (about two bucks) and comes in various outlet numbers -- two, three, four and more. It will make plugging both our phones and cameras in a LOT easier. I am usually crawling behind furniture to get to some of the outlets.

Buy discount pins for trading

Google sites for discount disney pins. Keep looking; some sites are cheaper than others. I purchased some for our last trip two years ago and they worked great. I only paid $2 a pin. Today, I ordered a 25 pin grab bag at $1.65 a pin (they said there wouldn't be duplicates). Great for trading!

There was an accident in January that resulted in the death of a Monorail driver CM (no passengers were on board). Since then they do not allow passengers to ride in the front car. There has been no official word of whether this will ever be allowed again.

The view was obviously great from that front car....and talking with the driver was always fun....but another reason to ride in front was to collect the Monorail trading cards. It was reported that this can still be done by asking a Monorail CM if they have any.....our experience has been hit and miss as to whether the CMs we ask have any available, but it's worth a try.

Have a wonderful time on your first trip.....may it be the first of many!

Two other "experiences" instead of the monorail -- you can be a guest conductor on the Disney World Railroad at MK. You just need to get the very back seat and you get to call out "all aboard" over the microphone and you get a card! Also, when we were there in December, the ferry boat Skipper on the lake at the World Showcase in Epcot had trading cards to give out - they were about safety at WDW. We had fun collecting those, too!

You can get trading cards from the bus drivers also.

My kids had a great ime collecting cards from the different types of transportation drivers.

Bus Drivers

On one of our trips we were the only passengers going to Downtown Disney early in the morning. (We got our times wrong and arrived about 45 minutes before opening).

Anyway, the driver chatted with us and let the boys "drive" the bus. We have pictures of each of them behind the wheel! And DTD was kind of neat with no one there.. we got lots of interesting shots and found those machines you put quarters in to look across the lake.
