The "You Have Got to be Kidding Me" Trip - Day 1 "Quick Tour of the Trailer Park"

When last we spoke, my trip was on a crash course for complete disaster. Here's the thread to refresh your memory or fill you in in case you missed the drama. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=711444.

The bags were packed and the kids were carefully sheltered from the money troubles I was experiencing. What's a girl to do? Despite my better judgement, we continued on with our plans. Shortly after getting home from work, we loaded the minivan with our luggage. Somewhere after the 6th suitcase, we realized how MINI our van really was. With suitcases wedged in front of the seats and each kiddo riding with their knees up by their shoulders, we set off for the preflight hotel. Our itinerary said that our vacation starts at 5pm. The van left the driveway at 6:30! Around 7 o'clock, the calls started coming from the backseat. "We're hungry. Can we stop for dinner soon?" Geez. We're taking them to Disney tomorrow. They want us to feed them too?! Don't they know this is putting me even further behind schedule?! There's a hottub with my name on it waiting at the Comfort Suites. I don't have time for dinner! Well, the complaining became more frequent so we finally relented and got them McDs drivethru and continued our drive to our preflight hotel.

Our flight out was at 7am so we thought it would be easier to sleep in a hotel near the airport to avoid getting up at 3 a.m. My thought was to soak in the whirlpool and try to forget all my Disney dollar drama. With the late start and the stop for dinner, we were pushing 9pm when we got to our hotel's exit. Ok, so maybe a quick soak in the tub and off to bed.

We got off the exit and followed the directions to the hotel straight to a gated community. Ok, so that's not the right way. I asked my DH to just ask the security guard manning the little booth how to get there. He refuses and turns around to go back towards the highway. I'm annoyed with DH but say nothing. He drives a little more - there's the hotel. Ok, so I won't be mad at DH anymore. He found it without asking. YAY! Guys, we're here! Get your shoes on....wait, how...do....we....get in....what the? It seems we can SEE the hotel from this section of the road but we can't actually GET to the hotel. This road takes us back on the highway! Are you kidding me?

We only need to go one exit on 95, turn around and try again. And now that we've SEEN the hotel, we'll find it easily, right? Ten minutes later and determined not to end up at the gated community, hubby carefully navigates us - thru a trailer park. If you live in the Metro DC area and saw a green minivan with kids in strangely contorted poses slowly driving past your mobile home....we weren't casing the joint. We were suffering from Husbandrefusestostopfordirectionsitis. Um, hon. I don't think this is it. Turning around, we end up....you guessed it...at the little booth at the gated community. I insist we drive a DIFFERENT way out of the neighborhood this time and "Are you kidding me?! We're HERE! Hallelujah!" We were 1/2 a mile away from it 20 minutes ago!

We're staying free with points earned from all of hubby's travels. The checkin lasts all of 5 seconds. Our suite is huge and I'm kind of sad that we're leaving at 5a.m. and because it's so late, we won't get to do anything but sleep. I try to sleep but it seems that we've lucked out and have a miracle bed. Every time hubby turns over, I am miraculously launched into the air for a second before bouncing back into bed. Oh, yeah. This is much more restful than sleeping in my own bed. We set the wakeup call for 4:45am but I give up on sleep at 3 a.m. and snap on the TV and wait for morning.

Oh wow, I curious to see how all that came out. I read it but didn't reply since I didn't know what to do either. Looking forward to reading more.

Was it a Marriott? I am convinced they HIDE those places. You can see them, but you can't get there from here!

It wasn't a Marriott. It was a Comfort Suites. It's a brand new hotel and obvously, the surrounding areas aren't well marked. The hotel was very nice once we were able to get inside. :D
