Exclamation FYI: New Photo Pass at all 4 Parks !!!

I just read this on wdwmagic.com

3 January 2005: New Digital photo services, and discontinuation of film processing

Beginning January 3, 2005, a new service will be available to guests. This new service for digital cameras will allow Guests to download their images and other media information from a digital media card to a CD.

Each of the camera centers in the four Theme Parks have been equipped with this new technology. In addition, this technology will be deployed in the Disney Resort properties over the next few months.

Due to the increase in digital camera usage during recent years, Guest demand for on-property film processing services has decreased. As a result, film processing will no longer be available at the four Theme Parks or the Walt Disney World® resorts effective January 3, 2005.

3 January 2005: PhotoPass

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- With more than six hundred million pictures taken at Walt Disney World Resort every year, it seems as though guests to the Vacation Kingdom enjoy capturing the memory of their vacations as much as they enjoy experiencing them.

Disney's PhotoPass, which debuted in all four Walt Disney World theme parks in December, presents guests with an alternative way to capture treasured moments.

Using professional digital SLR equipment, photographers take photos of guests throughout the theme parks. Instead of receiving a paper claim ticket, guests receive a Disney's PhotoPass that links all of their vacation photos together into one online account for easy online viewing and sharing. Guests can use one PhotoPass for their entire vacation or get a new PhotoPass each time they take a photo.

Guests will be able to view, share and order their photos online at DisneyPhotoPass.com . Although Disney's PhotoPass replaces the existing photo system at Walt Disney World Resort, guests will still be able to view and buy their vacation photos at Disney Photo Centers throughout property. There is no charge for obtaining a PhotoPass or viewing or sharing photos online. The cost of ordering prints from DisneyPhotoPass.com will be similar to the cost of buying the same photo at a Disney Photo Center.

Pretty cool

Yep -- another package perk too, from what I understand.

Not sure what you mean....tranfers from digital memory cards to CD's and Photopass pictures are available to everyone.

Photopass is nice! We used it this trip. Instead of having to check out your photos in each park whever they are taken, you can view and order from home, if you have access to the internet (public library, even, if you don't at home or work). You can still order them the traditional way if you want, but waiting til you get home is convenient.

I don't think it has anything to do with the packages.

I wonder how much it will cost to have our digital pictures burned on a cd? I'd love to do this if it isn't outrageously expensive.

You can have that done at most photo stores. I am sure they will charge heavily at Disney. I think KMart, etc charge about $5 extra for the photo disc.

When I take photos I wait until it fills up my memory card to a certain point - or if it is a special occasion like my Disney vacation then I burn them onto CD where I get my film developed, actually have my digital prints printed out. It usually costs 4.99 for a Kodak picture CD and sometimes run 2.99 for a special. They can hold 100 phots per CD.

I took 256 pictures on my last trip, to get them all printed out and put onto CD (which took 3) it cost me a grand total of $65. Not to shabby!

We loved the photo pass card. It was very convenient not having to look at it before we left the parks. We didn't even check out the pictures on the photopass until we got home. We had 30+ pictures stored on it by the end of our trip (12/12-12/25) and we went online on 12/26 and checked them out. We also sent them to family and friends without having to pay anything extra. We ordered 1 5X7 picture (9.95 + tax), but it was a great picture of our family in front of the castle.

Ohhhh smart Disney smart Disney.

I have to saythat is BRILLIANT. I HATE looking at all thos pictures at the END of a day. I usually hot and cranky and the kids are READY to hit the pool. I cant say that I have ever bought any from them.

BUT let me be at home? AFTER the trip is over and i am in my tinkerbell jammies and drinking some cocoa? Even better. AFTER my husband has come down from his usual "disneyworld wallet palsy"? I might be a picture buying fool!

Absolutely agree! Last Sept we looked all over DTD for a place to download my dig pics until someone said,"just go to Walgreens." That's my suggestion if you have to burn a CD. I can see myself buying more pictures from Disney if they are all together to view and I am not feeling "the pressure" to buy.

I am just saying I think there is going to be a little perk in the packages for this. I am wondering instead of travel pins and lanyards they use to hand out if now it will be a 5x7 or 8x10 photo, or something along that line.
Of course PP is available to all guests -- now and has been. We received a PP card for a photo we had taken on Main St a few weeks ago.

Now that I think about it what I saw may have been referencing PP on S/D packages. Still wonder if a little perk will be attached....

I am so happy to hear that the CD burning is available. I was calling the Disney photo shops in the parks in November concerning getting my pictures burned onto a CD in case I run out of memory on my Jan. trip and they told me they would have to send my memory card offsite to get burned onto a cd and it would take approx 4 hrs. Soooooo happy it's done onsite now!!!!!!!

Being able to view your pictures at home - after you have developed your own pictures - you can see if you even need to purchase any Dis pictures! Hopefully you have one just as nice or better then Dis - and you didn't have to spend the $10+!

I think this is a great idea!

I just about bought another xd card today at Sams - glad they were out of them!

If memory serves, it cost about $7.50 for 125 photos ($15.00 for 250, etc...)

I tried to keep that in mind each time I transferred photos - not to do it when I had 150 instead of 250, etc. Cheaper elsewhere, but convenient and not way over the top, I guess.

Hope that helps!
