Who can afford to shop at high end stores?

What I mean is, my wife and I make 'great" money.... and yet we don't shop at the high end stores. We probably are in the top 15% - 25 % of the country but feel like we can't afford to go to Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom's, Tiffany's. Heck, we don't even go to Bloomingdale's. And barely go to Macy's.

We shop almost exclisivey at Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Land's End, L.L. Bean.... you get the idea.

So, if we can't afford it, who is shopping at these stores?

I do, but rarely pay full price. Hecht's is always having some kind of sale. Today I got a Fossil watch for my 13 y.o. that with their 25% off sale price, plus my 20% coupon I only paid $18 and some change! Not too bad!

Lord & Taylor is closed around here but I do shop at Filene's and Nordstroms.I shop other places more, but I do get a lot at dept stores.
They always have sales. Insane sales. I never buy anything full price, except makeup and then I usually stock up at bonus time. I've paid more money at LL Bean than Nordstroms on things.

I just got $109 boots at Nordstroms.... Thanks to dh's grandma who ONLY shops high end retail and always buys me the wrong sizes. We exchanged Christmas presents early this year and I ended up with a big store credit for Nordstroms, so I decided to splurge on something I would never otherwise buy for myself, expensive shoes! So I guess I am a high end store shopper every Dec. when its time to do the Christmas returns from the IL's. The rest of the time I am a bargain shopper. I shop all over, including high end, but never pay above my comfort limit (which is not high) for anything, and I rarely pay full price.

NO flames but I really never thought of Nordstroms as a "high end" place . I think that they are about even with Macy's, Foleys , and Dillards . Neimans and Saks they are kinda on the high end . I shop those places and most of my friends also shop there.

When I think high end, I don't think of fossil brand and $109 boots, honestly. Though those are high end in relation to what we can afford right now (LOL), I think of people who carry $10k purses (and have a closet full), they have appointments at Versace and Lord and Taylor with personal shoppers, and a fitting room full of clothes already chosen in their size for them to try on. Or who have personal staff at Neiman's, ready for them to shop in their dept, $800 pumps for each outfit, etc.

You know those stores at high end malls that have their doors closed to regular shoppers? THAT'S what I think of as high end. You have to have an appt to come in.

And I don't know ANYONE personally that buys those things, I need some new friends

See Aimeedyan that is what I was talking about . That is high end to me also, the Nordstroms at the Galleria in Dallas is not high end to me at all .
When I saw that purse for 70K I was thinking " WHO in the world could buy this thing" THAT sister is high end !

Maybe it's not so much that you "can't afford" to shop there, but subconsciously you choose to use your hard earned money in a different manner..

I can pretty much guarantee you that even if I "could" afford to shop in those types of stores, I wouldn't.. It goes against everything I was taught as a child in terms of how and where to spend money wisely..
