2015 Transatlantic Ports

We are considering trading in the back-to-back cruises we have booked on the Wonder in April 2015, and doing the eastbound transatlantic instead. The cost of the cruise itself isn't too much more, but the airfare back from Denmark for the 4 of us will probably be killer! With the extra airfare costs, we wouldn't have the money to book excursions in the ports... But we would definitely want to get off and explore at each one. Does anyone know anything about the various ports - NYC, St. John's, Reykjavik, Oslo and Copenhagen - in terms of how close the cruise ports are to the city centers, tourist attractions, etc. We're happy to take public transportation or taxis, but just want to know whether it's possible to do some things easily on our own. Thanks for any advice or insights!

What I found for the flights is that it doesn't cost much to fly around in Europe. So for the WBTA this year I got a good rate with Icelandair from Vancouver to London and then we fly British Airways to Barcelona. This saved us a couple hundred dollars. I also booked flights almost a year in advance.

I can only speak to the St. John's, NL port. It is literally downtown St. John's and easily within walking distance to restaurants and shopping that offers traditional Newfoundland fare. Also within walking distance to George Street if you're interested in getting Screetched In.. Trapper John's is probably best known for it.
