One thing you always take on a cruise but never use/wear?

You know that one item you swear you won't take again but then invariably end up throwing it into the suitcase at the last minute. What's your "thing"? We are getting ready for our 3rd cruise and this time my parents are coming who have been on 56173738 cruises (only a slight exaggeration) and my Mum is an expert packer. Me? I still take too many flip flops but then forget my pajamas. What thing do you always take but never use or wear but it still ends up on vacation the next time?

I'd have to say jeans, but you never know, I could get cold.

I am a packer from way back, so when I go to pack for my Alaskan cruise, I will be frustrated as I will need to pack jeans and long sleeve shirts as well sweatshirts...

I have been on 5 (almost 6) Disney cruises and one Carnival cruise. I have learned from experience to not overpack!!! I bring just a carry on piece of luggage on each trip I take. I bring just one pair of sandals and one pair of dress shoes. I used to bring tennis shoes and found I never wore them ( to hot). I bring enough clothes for 4-5 days and wash my used clothing half way through my trip. I use the laundry room late in the evening so it's not crowded and again wash up my items the night before we go back home. This way it's all clean and ready to be put away right when I get home. We all know what it's like when you get home...the last thing I want to do is clean my house and do laundry.

Make a list before you go. A GOOD DETAILED LIST, so you know what you are bringing and how it all goes together. Visually seeing it on paper gives you a better understanding of what you can and can not live without.

I always pack a light jacket/windbreaker, 'just in case.' I'm one who easily gets cold (grocery stores, movie theatres.) I can only think of one time when I actually used it. Peace of mind though, knowing I have it should I need it.

Jacket for the alleged cold weather while at sea. Never has happened to us on a half dozen Disney cruises. Waste of packing.

But the one time you do decide to leave it at home will be the time you wished you had brought it. Murphy's Law!

Clothes pins to hold the curtains closed. I have yet to have a room that they don't stay closed on their own so I haven't used them yet.

But I keep bringing them because they are so highly recommended here and I'm sure the one time I don't have them, I will end up with a room with uncooperative curtains

That's what I was thinking, as we typically travel in the fall and it's chilly here in Seattle when we are leaving and coming back!

We always bring one suitcase for the three of us to share and a carry on bag with alcohol. Since we have a three year I do one load of laundry on board (learned the hard way first cruise when all those stains set in). It's easier to wash some things than bring another suitcase. We each only bring three pairs of shoes (sneakers, flip flops, dress shoes) and I make sure we each stick to a similar color scheme so we can mix and match outfits during the sailing. Agree with the jeans DH brought a couple pairs once (after seeing the complete disregard for dress code on board) and they never left the suitcase.
