Fun and Run are NOT two words that go together .... EVER!!!!

Quote:
The course is boring
Of course it it ... Castaway Cay is a Flat Desert Island ... not going to be to many sights unless you are running on the beach and that would make it even a harder run.

Damm It's Hot!!
In July and August and Duh. And you want some Disney Characters out there cheering you on ... They've been there before and know that you just want to hang out on the beach and play in the water because well ... it's Hot and Humid!! and Hot. Finishing is its own reward ... see "Fun .... Run"

I really thought I could handle the heat, I worked really hard, but it kicked my you know what.
It's OK to say "Butt" - see the Thong Thread from today.

"Never-ending" is exactly the way I would describe that loop, too. I agree with you, it's the worst!

I'm not talking running down the sand, just running somewhere where you can see SOMETHING interesting. I know the race is free but I expected SOMETHING that would make it stand out as special in my mind, and it's just not.

In the end they did receive medals and bibs because there were a couple of no shows.

Anyway, thanks for the reports...
Back in September we just showed up and signed up. They changed things recently, I guess. I'm jealous you got a picture with Runner Goofy.

Sounds like your CMs were stricter than mine. At one point one of them went backstage in Evolution and dug out more bibs and medals, so they were not planning on cutting it of from what I could see.

My husband ran the 5K in late July. I think we had an unusually "cool" day because while it was hot, it wasn't unbearable. (mid 80s) He actually had decent time.
One place (Navigator?) said arrive at Evolution at 8:15, another place (maybe the app) said arrive at 8:30. We got there closer to 8:15, then stood in line, then sat and waited. Actual race started about 9:20.

I don't run marathons - I can do 2 miles without a 5 minute break at this time. The water stations help but there no shade and a boring scenery.

Now, what's a 'special magnet' ?

The surface of the concierge doors on the fantasy is not magnetic. The interior is, but requires a stronger magnetic. The Neodymium Magnets work to keep stuff on the door. The doors on the wonder and magic worked just fine for normal stuff.

Thanks for sharing and the insight into the 5k.. it is something I am working towards for our next cruise, luckily we are going in March so the weather shouldn't be as hot.

5K Run

I was on this cruise.

I ran the 5K also. I added 3 1/2 min on to my time from a 5K I ran in May. I didn't think that was to bad considering the heat.

I will agree it was HOT and HUMID. After talking to people, it seemed those who live in the North had a harder time running.

I live in the South, so I guess the Heat & Humidity didn't hurt me as much.....but I will say I was sweating for a good while after the race!

I was saying to my husband....I wished it would have rained while we were running, instead of while we were on the beach!

I went to the Disney site and tried to book a room at the category I was looking for. Then pushed the select stateroom/change stateroom button to see what was available. Learned that from this board too.....

I live in the mountains in the west and typically run at about 60 degrees when I run outside and 70 on my treadmill. The hottest run I had ever had before this one was on deck 4 and there is an awesome breeze there and this one section of air conditioning that kept me cool. I was NOT acclimated to the weather. You were probably a lot better prepared to deal with that. Its 25 percent humidity here today.

Years ago, you used to just show up at the disembarkation gangway and they'd let you off the ship early if you were running the 5K, and the run started near Marge's Barges. Now, it's hurry up and wait, and then walk and walk and walk to the starting point. Kinda like most other runDisney races. And I'm sure that somehow they manage to make that loop and infinity loop, it goes on and on and on.

Don't care for the Castaway Cay 5K at all, and here's the stupidity on my part, runDisney has suckered me into paying to do it on the January 12th post Marathon weekend cruise. Yes, I'm a sucker for an inaugural medal.

Thanks for the review of the 5k...I ran it back in 2012 on a double-dip on the Dream. It was my first 5k since a few years prior and I enjoyed training for it. I noticed that every other itinerary EXCEPT the Fantasy Eastern arrives at Castaway Cay by 8:30. On our Dream cruise, the race started a little after 9 a.m. and wasn't too hot...except after it, I stopped to get water, buy a shirt, and I went back to the ship to shower and change. The race ate up my entire morning!

We are going on the Fantasy Eastern shortly, and with the arrival at Castaway Cay being later, I think I will skip the run this time.
