Gift card balance at the end of cruise

For our upcoming sailing we have a shipboard credit from our travel agency and another from Disney since we booked on board last time. I am also bringing a $200 Disney gift card I have. I know some of this money will go towards Palo, tips and excursions. But we're not big drinkers or spenders, so there is a chance there will be some money left at the end of the cruise.

So, my question - how to I handle the gift card? Do I go to guest services and have it applied to my account? If there is money left at the end of the cruise, does it go back on the card? It is my understanding that any shipboard credit we have left at the end is forfeited. So, will they pull funds from the shipboard credit before using the gift card? Phew - hope that makes sense!

Yes, shipboard credit is "use it or lose it". As for the gift card, you can put it all on your account at the beginning of your cruise or you can wait until the last afternoon and have them take just what you owe. If you put it all on at the beginning, any unused amount will go back on the card.

If it was me, and I wasn't planning on spending more than $200 above my OBC amount, I would just take care of it near the end of the cruise. That way you know the OBC will be used first and you won't have to deal with the refund.

Yes, DCL will use your OBC first. I suggest you do some preliminary calculations to see how much more you might need. You can figure $12 per person per night for tips, figure out how much is needed for excursions, add in Palo fee. See if your OBC from the TA plus OBC from the OBB will cover that, or not.

I wouldn't apply the gift card unless you know you'll need it above and beyond the two OBCs.

If there is a balance remaining, it will be re-applied to the same gift card, so hold on to it.

Enjoy your cruise!

I had this similar experience last week on the Dream. We had booking credit and I applied my Disney Rewards dollars towards our account. I never dreamed we wouldn't spend that much, but we just didn't. The final morning I went to check that my $$ would be put back on my rewards card. At first the CM was confused but after checking with the finance office she said it would go back on my account at the "end of the day." Because it was debarkation day, the end of the day was 9 a.m.

I agree with the above, in the future, I'll just wait to apply the card near the end of the cruise.

Refunds go back to the original form of payment so it'll go back to that gift card which is fine if you'll be going to WDW or cruising again soon. If not, I'd look into another form of payment.
