New Pool at the POLY?????? WHY !?

We are headed back to the Poly for next Easter or Memorial Day weekend. Our last visit to WDW was in 2013 and we stayed with friends at the GF. Our last visit to the Poly was in 2010---tooooo long ago!! We have always LOVED the volcano pool, could someone please let me know what is happening?? I am aware that there is a lot of construction happening with the Grand Ceremonial House and the DVC-- BUt what was wrong with the volcano pool??

With adding of DVC to the Poly, it would make the pool too small for the extra amount of people. I'm assuming. So IMHO, DVC has not only ruined a once wonderful view and beach but also killed a great pool.

Actually, the DVC is replacing existing rooms, so if anything, it will bring the amount of people down a bit.

There isn't much known about the work at the resort's pool. I know a hottub will be added. I've also heard that they're considering adding a small food component to the Barefoot Pool Bar similar to what they did at the GF's Beach Pool.

Beyond the basic resurfacing of the pool, I have heard some rumors about them removing part or all of the volcano but there is nothing substantial behind them at this point. It would surprise me if they chose to as the volcano has become an iconic component of the resort.

Supposedly, it'll re-oopen in March, so we'll see!

The Volcano pool gets so crowded. I wonder if they are making the pool bigger or just changing the existing area surrounding the pool ??

DH will love the hot tub addition, excited for that!

We stayed at Poly in 2012. I attempted the volcano pool once during our stay but it was so crowded that people were just standing up, so I hope the volcano pool is being enlarged. During our stay, I ended up going to the quiet pool near Hawaii, and it was great.

This year we are going to BWI and am looking forward to coming out of the clown's mouth.

The pool will not change in size and the slide will remain the same. I was told the volcano structure would be reduced in size. The majority of the work will be surrounding the pool to add a larger pool deck area, infinity hot tub and new kids wet play area. The Barefoot Bar will not change but I was told the grill will go in at the new bar that will go in at the East pool later next year. There will be a fence that closes off the pool and beach area from the rest of the resort but the barefoot bar will have one side of it you can still access from outside the fence.

There will not be much impact on amount of guests with adding 20 bungalows and consider that some of the one and two bedroom units will take up more than one old room. Also with the fence going up around the pool area chances are there will be less people at the pool area.

Iím not too attached to the volcano myself. It does take up a lot of space and it has only been there since 2001 so to me it has not been around that long. The old Nanea pool was there for much longer.

Great information, thank you . I can't wait to see it done when we go back to the Poly next July .

Heidijanesmith. Itís amazing how things travel on the internet. Back in 2000 I scanned in a new graphic that was on a piece of paper at the club level concierge desk of the Polynesian because I had never seen the logo before. I used that scan on my original Polynesian Resort page and ever since then I see it pop up around the internet. It is now your avatar. It just shows you that once you put something online you never know where it will end up.

Scroll down to post #10. That clown is why we've never stayed at Boardwalk.

Just wanted to thank Tikiman for his, always valuable, information.

I do remember the first volcano pool - that was our first visit to an on-site Disney resort in l987!

So glad they are fencing off the pool - can't wait to try it again.

Well, a fence around the volcano pool is looooong overdue! Shame if they make the volcano smaller though. It's kind of an iconic feature of the Poly but so was Sunset Point and the water feature in the GCH and they didnt have any problem levelling those.
