Paying for upgrade to a preferred room at check in.

Well, we will be leaving for our WDW trip very soon and of course I just had to fall and really hurt my knee. Nothing is going to stop me from going on this trip and I'll rent a wheel chair if I need it, but I was hoping it would not be too much of an issue to pay for a preferred room at check-in. (as long as one is available) Has anyone ever asked to do this at check-in?

I've asked twice to do this at check in (and willing to pay) but there was no availability both times. Now I make sure I book preferred ahead of time. Hopefully you'll have better luck then me. I hope that your knee feels better soon.

Agree with the PP, if you want a preferred room you should book it now rather than wait until checkin.

The one time I tried there was no availability.

Maybe you could attempt to upgrade a week before?

Preferred rooms get booked up fast. I'd call now so you can be prepared if none are available.

Ouch, hope you are feeling better.

If you want a preferred room I would book it now or if nothing is available, keep calling rather than wait until check in. If you have a package and are within 45 days of arrival there is a $50 change fee, but it is usually waived if the package cost increases and any new balance will be due immediately. If you are within 2 weeks of arrival there is a $15 paperwork fee that will be assessed. If you have a room only res there is no change fee and balance is due upon arrival.
