Beach in Nassua

First time cruisers and I have read a lot about staying on the ship on our 4 day Dream trip. We really love the beach though and I know the pools on the ship are small. So is there a nice beach for lounging and swimming? Maybe something that would be a half day trip not so much all day so we could enjoy the ship too. And if there is what's the beach called and how do you travel to it?

My family did the Blue Lagoon beach excursion in Nassau last November and thoroughly enjoyed it. You take a 30 minute catamaran cruise from the cruise ship dock to a private island. Its absolutely gorgeous and serene and was our favorite day on the cruise. The lagoon is sheltered, so its great for little ones (no crashing waves to worry about). There are also lifeguards, sand toys for the kids and plenty of shade. They also served a nice buffet on the island, which is included in your excursion. I believe there were 3 return times to choose from, so you would certainly have some time to enjoy the ship. Enjoy your cruise!

I walked down to Junkanoo beach and it is nice enough if you just want to get away for a few hours to splash in the water. There are plenty of vendors and restaurants nearby. It is also free too.

We walked to the pirate museum, but got off track and ended up at Junkanoo Beach. We didn't have our swim gear but let our five bigger kids go in the water in their clothes. We were seriously regretting not having our suits. It would have been a fun spot for a few hours. There were vendors there to rent chairs, etc. I would NOT take valuables!!

Blue Lagoon is beach perfection for us. We loved it all over again on Tuesday. The friends we brought with us actually thought they might bring their family back on the trip sometime and go there. (The went to Atlantis previously and had no interest in coming back, but we all love BL!)

While we waited for the ferry to unload our group, I was on the dock and a basketball flew up to me. A dolphin wanted to play catch. I tossed it and it tossed it back until it decided I was too boring and left. Can't say I had ever done that before!

The food got really high marks again, and this time, some of the boys paid for the inflatable water park (its only $15 I think) and do you know, they stayed on it for HOURS?! My 38 'kid' husband and his 8 yr old buddy. They were on those toys all afternoon.

I can honestly say, its beauty and perfection. Tons of hammocks and shade and palm trees, tons of sun if you want it, good fresh seafood, yummy virgin or adult beverages (not a bad value either) and you can watch the sea lions and dolphins play (or you can do encounters like we have twice! really fun and special!) and the ferry ride there and back is really nice.

Speaking of which, I finally saw wild dolphins this trip! Leaving Port Canaveral and then during our BL ferry to the island.

Blue Lagoon is just a cool, relaxed, secure place and when it comes to Nassau, I don't even need to look further. We had the choice to book 2 Castaway Days or go to BL and CC, and we went right back to Nassau so we could go to BL. The public beaches in Nassau are going to be a lot less secure than BL, since it's only island staff or fellow guests that are there. (Not that you want to leave valuables lying around in case of other guests but you don't have to worry about things being 'hocked' at you or being mugged or anything like that.) When we got off, we were heckled for hair braiding, buy this starfish, buy this or that or take a tour. In BL, you have NONE of that. It's so relaxed. You also don't have to pay for any chairs or hammocks or umbrellas or anything because you have already paid in advance for your excursion. Only exceptions are food and drink unless on your beach day package, and water sports like paddle boats, kayaks or the inflatable water park.

How is the snorkeling there, and what time do you end up getting to the island in the morning? Thanks for all the info

The Blue Lagoon is very nice. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I used to work as a CM on the Disney Magic and we only went there a few times in the Winter. I personally really enjoyed going to Atlantis. Maybe something to think about if you haven't been before.

Any questions, just let me know!

Blue lagoon sounds wonderful. So it sounds like it's worth going even if you don't do the encounters?
