Tell me what I need to know about going from Value to Deluxe!

We've always stayed in a preferred Value room (All Star Movies), and are taking the plunge for a different type of vacation to stay at Wilderness Lodge. We are used to the "Value way" of vacationing - never in the room other than to sleep! - and while we love that type of vacation, my hubby is pushing for a "more relaxing" vacation and more time spent around the resort.

The current free dining offer this fall (we're going the week prior to Thanksgiving) was the push we needed to go ahead and book!

So tell me what I need to know... what have we been missing out on that we can now take advantage of with a Deluxe (Wilderness Lodge!)

WL is a whole lot smaller - so less other guests. It has 2 restaurants, one quick service, lounge inside the building.

also has a pool bar outside and in the other building (VWL) is a gym - the gym is pretty great.

it has 3 spa pools outside - 2 near the main pool, the other near the pool at VWL.

you can walk to the boat for trips to the MK or bus. buses are for everywhere else.

the lobby is wonderfully!!!

Enjoy the resort. You might be used to commando touring but make sure you come back and enjoy swimming or resting mid afternoon.

Make sure to eat at your resort. Or enjoy the ease of eating at the nearby MK resorts.

WL has a beautiful lobby area - soak it in and let the kiddos explore!

The WL thread is full of great tidbits about the resort. Folks that are super passionate about it.

Check into daily/nightly activities at WL and FW, like the campfire, outdoor movie showings, etc. Plan on some relaxing pool time, and enjoy the boat ride to MK. You can also take the boat to the CL and hop the monorail to visit the other monorail deluxes (for a meal or drink or just to view the lobbies) Plan to watch the electric boat parade at least one night from the waterfront. Take advantage of your proximity to MK to take some afternoons off to lounge around the pool. If you time your boat to/from the MK well, you can watch wishes on board one night.

Don't plan on too much quick service eating at the resort. Generally deluxe resorts have a smaller selection of quick service menu items. (I learned to find more quick service eating at parks instead of the resort)

We've stayed at the grand Floridian several times and the POP several times. The main difference I noticed was the resort itself being more special so we used the pool more and the hot tub was wonderful. The plus of having a balcony is very nice to have a drink and relax on as well. Enjoyed both resorts but the deluxe resorts have better restaurants and theming is beautiful. We will be staying at WL in November and I'm looking forward to using the mini boats to cruise bay lake : )
Have a wonderful trip !!!!

We love WL. As others have said, take some time to walk around and explore the resort. We also love walking through the woods over to Fort Wilderness. It is hard to believe you are so close to the hustle and bustle of the parks there because it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere.

Coming from a value, one thing to be aware of is that the QS food location is probably smaller than you're used to. Roaring Fork has great food, but it can get busy in the mornings and doesn't have a huge seating area. You do also have options of WCC or AP if you're feeling fancy. You can also get a great meal at Trail's End at Fort Wilderness, which is accessible via a short boat ride or about a 15-20 minute walk through the woods.

We stayed at WL this past fall and LOVED it.

We enjoyed just relaxing one night at the resort. We watched the electric water parade and they had night activities. You can also see MK fireworks; we watched them from the beach the night we did the water parade and from our ROOM another night when DD was super exhausted.

You will love it!

We found the #1 difference between value to moderate to deluxe is the crowd. ASM - 1920 rooms; CBR - 2122 rooms and WK - 728 rooms

Have fun and relax!

Don't forget bed size! You and your husband will have more room to roll over at night since the WL's rooms have queen sized beds.

The location will also make for quicker trips to the MK. (And prettier if you'd like to take the boat.)

Have a great trip!!

Spend time at the resort - lots of little nooks and crannies to explore - sit on a sofa by the fireplace - enjoy the ambiance.

Have dinner at Artist Point - one of the best meals I have enjoyed at WDW.

Use the boat transportation, take a walk to explore Ft. Wilderness, see a show at Hoop de Doo.

That's a pretty good description! Don't forget the larger rooms, queen beds and just overall decor of WL. It's like being in a hunting lodge in the Wilderness. Whispering Canyon is one of our favorite TS restaurants!

We started in a value, tried Moderate and never went back. We are staying it POFQ in August and then CR is October. Pretty sure once we do CR, the mods will be out in the future as well unless we are traveling on cost concerns alone.

OP - Have a great time, you'll love WL!
