What can you request at POP that is still considered "standard"?

I've paid the last two times for preferred rooms at Pop, and one was markedly better than the other, but they seemed a very long walk any way you sliced it. I would prefer to be close to a parking lot or possibly near the bridge as I intend to visit AofA this time, but I think the rooms around the lake are preferred? I've never had a lake view so not sure. I know I can request a floor, but are certain buildings or rooms around the lake/pool/classic hall "off limits" to request if I'm only booking a standard this time?

I was in a standard room lakeview in the 60's in 2012. Not sure if the categories have changed since then. It was an awesome room location - right by bridge to AOA

Our last trip to Pop was October 2013. We got the same view as the previous poster. Lake view, 60's, ground floor, corner room. We were right around the corner from the kiddie pool. We got very lucky. Every request we made was granted. We were pretty surprised since we didn't get to the resort until 9pm. We had done online check-in...I am not sure if that helped.

There is hope to get what you want. Making a request doesn't hurt.

That sounds like a perfect location if we could get close to that. We utilize the kiddie pool a lot, and I plan on frequenting AofA's QS. I will ask if they can get me close. Thanks to you both.

We always book standard and always request 50's building 1. Last year we had a corner room on the 1st floor, it was actually the room right behind the laundry building. The only time we didn't get building 1 we got building 2 near the back but the walk wasn't bad.

Is one of the buildings better / worse for location than the others? 2 years ago we were in 50's and last year 60's preferred and found both room locations to be convenient to main building. Just for the heck of it DS said let's request
70's (we have preferred room).

Has anyone found one building to be overall closer or further from main building? Or does it not really matter as much.....just curious.

Thanks

Always book Standard, love my lake view rooms!

Our Bldg 3 view is our favorite. Standard rate. Lake view!

Last map I saw of Preferred (red) areas. We like 50's and 60's. Do not like 80's and 90's.

I don't think it matters that much. Nothing at Pop is very far from the main building. We have stayed in the 50's, 80's, and 90's.

How far in advance do you call for a special request? Do you call the resort directly or the main WDW line?

We're traveling with my parents who booked their own reservation. Do you think it's likely they'll accommodate our request to have our rooms close together? We'll be traveling at the end of October.

If I haven't done it when I book I call back as soon as I can. I then call about 30 days out to be sure it's still showing on my reservation. I have always gotten my requests when I have done this (so 10 times, my first trip I didn't, but got a great lake view room in 70's). Two times I forgot, called about 10 days out and they said they would insert it but probably too late. Sure enough both times I was put in 90's with the teen tour groups.

Just call the normal reservations number, they will pull up your reservation and add our request.

Maybe a 2 to 3 minute walk across the bridge? My estimate. I have walked it. Just never timed it.

If I remember right from November it took us about 10 mins, that was from building 1. The time will vary depending on where you are coming from.
