How can I tell if room has a pull-down bed?

Is there a map/list somewhere that shows which rooms have the pull-down bed from the ceiling. When I booked, it just says sleeps 3 or 4. We are a family of 3, but DD wants to the pull-down bed. We have 2 cruises booked and it looks like one of them is a room that sleeps 3 (Magic rm#6128) and I can't find any information on the other one (Fantasy rm #7542). I would like to find a list/map so that I can see where I can move one or both these rooms to. They're both 5C rooms. I've already looked on the Disboard Stateroom reports. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the only rooms with a pull down bed from the ceiling are the deluxe family staterooms that sleep 4 or 5. I know we had one on our last Dream cruise in a Deluxe Family Stateroom (4a). It will usually say in the room description. If you can see the pictures of the room it looks like a rectangle in the ceiling above the couch. Hope this helps.

Category 5C also has the pull-down bed if it sleeps 4. We have booked that on our last 2 cruises. We could not get the same room for the Fantasy and we are new to the Magic, so I wasn't sure which room to pick there.

9A on the Dream/Fantasy also have pull-down bunks. Many categories do, just not every stateroom in that category.

There is a thread someone started this winter asking about number of beds in a room. I'll see if I can find it. DCL does not publish such a list, though I *think* if you call and ask they will tell you.

One way to look for yourself, is to work through a booking on the DCL website with 4 passengers. Get far enough into the booking for it to show you staterooms. The system will only show staterooms that have enough bed spaces for the number of passengers, so it will show you rooms with the extra bunk.

Enjoy your cruise!

ETA: this is the thread I was thinking of, but it's only for the Dream/Fantasy

Thanks, lanejudy! That was super helpful! It looks like our 7542 on the Fantasy has a bunk! That's good because we sail next month. I'm almost positive our 6128 on the Magic only sleeps 3, (so no bunk) but I have 14 months to find a different room to switch to.

What I would do is go to the website and search like you're a party of 4. See what room numbers are available. Those sleep 4.

At least for the classic ships the Passporter guides had a map that showed the number each room slept... I am not sure if this is true any more, we have not purchased the passporter guide books for the newer ships.

Ditto.

When I asked DCL about it, they simply said they will not sell you a room where your party will not fit into it. So if you have a party of 4, you're going to get a pull down bed. There's no real way to know for sure unless you've been in that room before.

on one of our Magic cruises when I get the tickets and checked the room, the DCL cruise book said it did not have the 4th bunk. Since we were 2 adults and 2 kids I immediately called DCL.

I was told: every room in that category has the 4th bunk. We only show 'some' in the literature because if we fill all those bunks we don't have enough lifeboats. Whaaaaaattttt?

Poorly worded but I understood what they were trying to say. The ship is certified to sail with XX passengers and if they fill EVERY ONE of those 4th bunks they could exceed that number. The booking system keeps track.

Sure enuf, the room HAD the pull down.

**********************
funny follow on to the story. On the cruise, the family and I received an invitation to be on the bridge departing Castaway. I struck up a conversation with another guy up there and said, I know what string I pulled to get up here, what's your angle? He said, "I'm a vice president of the cruise line, what's YOUR angle?" Captain USCG . . . and I went on to tell him my funny story ... handing him my card.

.... " We only show 'some' in the literature because if we fill all those bunks we don't have enough lifeboats" ......

He turned rather pale and began to stammer . . .

I said, don't worry I hope I know what she meant . . .

Oh YES ... YES. Turns out he was with a group of new phone people for an orientation trip. "I just decided we're having another training session tonight!"

true story . . .

Hmmm...I have the 9th edition, which is not the most recent, though obviously not the oldest either. But it doesn't have anything specific about how many in each stateroom, just by category (and most say 3-4). Seems odd they would drop that info, unless maybe it was found to not be entirely accurate. The Magic and Wonder haven't changed, though categories were reclassified to match the Dream/Fantasy a few years ago, but the actual staterooms haven't changed. I'll have to dig a little more and see if I can find it in my book.

6128 on the Magic/Wonder does sleep 3. I have an old Passporter book that shows how many each room holds. Let me know if you want me to check a room.

Thank you for the offer, Kristi. I found a website that lists the info for the Magic and Wonder, but the category information doesn't seem up to date. At least I can see how many per room. I'm assuming that info wouldn't change?

Thanks for the help everyone. Oh, the things we do to make our kids happy....

It's probably the same list I have - the categories are not updated either. When the Dream came out, they changed some of the categories on the Magic/Wonder to match up a bit. The person/room info should be the same.

We have been in both 6042 & 6608 which are 5c's and they have the pull down bunk.
