Help Please! CBR Preferred Room? CM said we would regret not upgrading

We are checking in at CBR on Sunday. We have three rooms booked, standard view. I requested Jamaica 45 or Aruba 51 (I might have that backwards). My aunt just called to change her reservation and the CM she talked to said we should switch to preferred else it will be a 28 minute walk to the pool and the restaurant.

I can't decide what to do. If we get our requested building, we will only have a 4-5 minute walk across the bridge (per the CBR thread here). But I can't ever remember seeing that it would be a nearly 30 minute walk.

I've never stayed CBR. I know it's big. What would you do? If you have stayed here before, what is your experience?

It is a good walk to the foodcourt and main pool, but not 28 minutes. More like 5-10mins depending on your room location. I would not worry about this unless you have someone in your party who has a tough time walking.

If we ever stay at CBR again, it will ONLY be with a preferred room.

Don't worry there isn't a room on property that would require a 30 minute walk to the food court/main pool. Even when we booked pirate rooms it didn't take nearly that amount of time. If you do indeed get your requested Jamaica 45 your walk will be a beautiful 5 minute walk over the foot bridge. But if the idea of walking makes you uneasy a preferred room is a great way to go and if they are available I would indeed book that category.

It is 10 minutes or so, but remember that is assuming you get your request. no guarantees of that.

You could end up further back in Aruba or Jamaica or up in Barbados and walk could be 15-20 min or so.

Preferred room would guarantee you a closer location.

I don't know where the CM pulled 28 minutes from. From the farthest location it'll be a 10 minute walk to OPR.

Hello!

My family loves CBR! This is our favorite moderate. We have stayed in Aruba and it was less then a 10 min walk to the main building. Its a beautiful stroll across the bridge, my DH said its about 5 mins. Like others have said if someone has difficulty walking then it might be a concern. My DD uses a wheelchair and we push her to the main area. We enjoyed our stay there each time!

By the way we arrive Wednesday and have booked a preferred room this time around. Have a great vacation, you will love CBR!

We were there earlier this month, and got 'upgraded' to a Pirate Room. We accepted, but won't do that again.
We wound up in Trinidad South, Bldg 39...THE FARTHEST building from Port Royale. And our room was at the extreme far tip of the building, on the second floor. We walked from our room to Port Royale once; I didn't time it, but it wasn't 28 minutes. 15, 20 maybe, but not 28 or 30. Don't get me wrong; it's definitely a hike, but not a half-hour one way. And it's not something you'd want to do at the end of the day, when you're hot and tired, and maybe hungry. While walking back from OPR, my wife struck up a conversation with someone else who had been upgraded to a Pirate Room, and she couldn't figure out why we were being punished.

We've had rooms in both Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51, and we loved both of those locations, with Aruba getting a slight edge because it has a better beach. We've also had a room in Bldg 31, which was a good location, but I can't remember if that was a Preferred room or not.

Echoing what others have said, but I will throw this out there:

I'm a runner so walking doesn't bother me. I NEVER pay for a preferred room at the values, BUT I have paid for a preferred room 2x at CBR and not preferred 2x--IF you plan to use the refillable mugs as your primary liquid and you want at least one meal a day at the food court, then IMHO it IS worth the money for the upgrade.

Hubby and I stayed there for our 15th anniversary. I knew he would want lots of soda and food court meals. the preferred room was awesome, in exactly 5 minutes from the time we stood, we were in front of the soda machine.

OP, that CM was really misinformed. I have started at OPR and strolled all the way around the lake finishing up at back OPR, taking pictures along the way and it took 24 minutes. From the absolute farthest point of Trinidad South, where the Pirate rooms are, to OPR is right around 10-11 minutes. There are 768 non-preferred rooms that are right around a 5 minute walk to OPR. After 5 stays at CBR, we've never seen the need to spend the extra $$ for a preferred room.

If you ever provided an upgrade to a pirate room...it really isn't an upgrade! The walk is the farthest and like many have said here get a preferred room and have a rental car when in peak season.

Thanks everyone. The others have left the decision to me. I'm leaning towards risking it. I might be back in a week to complain! BWAAHAHAHA!
