As a pp mentioned even if it's the same water we just can't drink from bathroom facets, we also take bottles for port days. What we do it take a whole case still sealed and closed and cart it around on a luggage cart like the one below which is easily collapsable for going through security.

Is it possible to carry a case of water on board and then leave it outside your stateroom until your stateroom is ready?

No. You can't even get to your staterooms until they are open.

There's really no need to bring/buy bottled water to use onboard.
Except that for some of us, there is. The water onboard doesn't taste great to us, and until we STOPPED drinking it, we were swelling terribly. Once we bought an Evian package and stopped drinking the water onboard, our ankles and hands were much happier.

But of course it's the *spring* water that's key for us. Crystal Geyser works, too. And Zephyr Hills is what we buy for parks visits. "Real" water, not weird municipal, treated, filtered water or desalinated water from the ship.

If we plan on using the drink staton is it a good idea to bring a travel mug or Nalgene bottle for refilling? Is that allowed?

some people do it however it is highly discouraged that you use your bottle/mug directly. they ask that you use one of their cups to fill your container. this is for sanitary reasons.
although not often, i have seen the drink station maned by cm's so you don't get near it.

I ordered water on my cruise in Dec. 2013. I ordered it prior to boarding the ship. When I arrived at my stateroom it was there. Although it was costly $21.00 for 12 bottles of water. The benefits of it being there when I needed it and bring able to carry a secured , disposable bottle around outweighed the cost for me. Also not having to lug it on the ship was a big plus since I was carrying a carry on and a purse. However, each to there own.

We just stop at Publix close to the ship and carry our case of water onboard with us.

Love Publix! We stop there and get all sorts of drinks and Disney themed party gifts before boarding DCL! The only saving grace when we get back to port --- Publix Deli Subs! :-)
