What is the advantages of checking in 60 days in advance?

As the topic suggests, what are the advantages to checking in so early

You're not really checking in, you are preregistering. You are taking care of some of the paperwork before you arrive. So one possible advantage is that the check in process once you arrive should be quicker because your packet will be printed up already.

Another possible advantage is that during online check in, you inform them what time you expect to arrive. If you are arriving prior to official check in time, 3PM, and you don't have any room requests you have a better chance of your room being ready upon arrival.

Well that is the philosophy behind it but never works for us-our room is never ready in all our trips.

I'm not sure of any actual "advantages" but it makes me feel like if I do it, my request has a better chance of being met. And besides that, it's just fun to get the process started. I always feel like I'm on my way when I check in online.

Less time waiting in line for you, fewer CM's to pay for Disney. Or at least that is how I understand it. Why you do it so far in advance, I'm not sure.

If you are 'checked in' online, can you still cancel your trip up to 5 days before without penalty? Just wondering...

This. There has always been a room available for us and we always arrive around noon. We usually travel in the fall and winter, so that might also be the reason.

It's actually a real theory and it does work, more often than not. Not all the time of course. We've had 4 out of 5 trips where our room was ready by check in. It just depends on what house the moon is in, if the stars are alligned correctly and if it's a leap year or not.

Yes, you can still cancel. It really isn't the same as checking in at the resort, it's just pre-registering your information. I don't really think there is an advantage to doing it 60 days before vs 10 days before.

I used it last November, arrived at BWV around 1:30, my room was not ready for another hour.

most times our room was ready. only once was it not ready, but it was only about 30 minutes later that we got a text. we stayed at POFQ that time. our requests were honored with little problems. 60 days v 10 days? not sure of the advantages, but I sure do like planning!!!!

So it's 60 now and not 10?

First time I checked in online all requests were met. Second time NO requests were met and I was actually put in the one section I asked to not be in but room was ready. Third time requests met AND room ready early. Fourth time HUGE online check-in line and room wasn't ready until 5 pm! So.....as you can see it's a toss up.

I think it's all just luck. One time we did early online check-in and our room was ready, all requests met, and check-in only took a couple minutes. Other times, not so much.
