I would take my kids alone. That being said.....

I would wait until after their first cruise in May.

Since you are cruising in May with your DH , I would wait and just go with him. Your kids are going to be so excited and happy on the ship, your husband should enjoy and seeing your kids reactions.

Then, I would be booking another cruise with just me and the kids in June

I cruise solo with my 9 year old. We keep cruising because it is by far the less stressful vacation we have taken. Disney really does make it easy!

I have taken my girls to WDW yearly since they were 2 and 5 without hubby and on 5 cruises!! They are now 14 and 11. Cruises are actually easier as there are so many planned activities and if the kids like the clubs, you will actually get a little time to yourself.

Thank-you to everyone that responded!! Your advice, input and positive experiences have made me decide to book the cruise! We're going March 10th, 4 nights on the Magic! We're all very excited!
I've got a lot of work to do now since we leave so soon!

I think I might even do 2 or 3 nights at Disney pre cruise!

Yay

I was on a cruise once with a mom who was by herself with her son who was about 8 to 10, don't remember exactly, and she complained that she thought she would be getting quality time with him, but he wouldn't leave the kids' club. So she was up in the Cove with the adults, complaining that she never saw her son.

My daughter doesn't spend much time with mom, but I've never been upset by that. I am happy that she's enjoying her vacation....

I do require her to eat breakfast and dinner with mom and go to the show.

As a single mom who is taking her two DS on our first cruise, this is exactly what I am worried about! I can insist on quality time, and I think we all enjoy spending time together. But if those darn kids clubs are too fun, and everyone else is a happy couple, I better find some good books first!

I am a solo parent so I do everything with just the kids and I. We love DCL for all the reasons others have mentioned. I have found cruising to be the best of both worlds for the kids and myself. The kids and I did a 14 night cruise in DEC 2012 and we all had a great time. So go for it!

This is so crazy!! My babysitter is going on vacation from March 8-18, and we can't find anyone to watch the kids, so just today I thought well.... since,it looks like I have to take off work, maybe we can take a little mother son cruise

But, I was unsure of travelling alone with my boys age 6 and 3 and it would be our first cruise, and we are thinking of taking one with DH in May!!! Crazy part is I was just looking at the same exact cruise on the Magic!!

Maybe this is a sign

That would be my situation if I took DS, except I wouldn't be complaining. We spend enough time together as it is!

As for going before or after, that depends on personalities. My husband travels for work and gets to see all sorts of places. Because of that he wants us to have fun when we can. And while he does miss some first-time experiences, DS and DH love it when DS can be a tour guide for when DH does join us.

Thank-you to everyone that has responded. I have really enjoyed reading all your comments.

Cruise is booked, and I booked AKL for 2 nights pre cruise (its our fav resort) and I'm thinking of even staying 2 or 3 nights post cruise as well.

I may do AKL again or I was even thinking of going off property and try something new

Thanks again to all for all your help
