FINALLY! I have results. No fracture. She said a sprain of a ligament in my foot and tendonitis. And the medical assistant couldn't answer my questions so I'm not exactly sure of the details. They want me to do physical therapy for a ligament sprain. I'm not sure exactly what that entails to be honest since I'm not really having any significant pain any more. She also set me up with an orthopedic doctor instead of the PA that saw me at that walk in. No more boot!! I have set up my first physical therapy appointment on Wednesday and I will see what they say. Hopefully I can start walking again at the very least. Maybe I can get through the 10k on June 14th after all...

That is great news you finally got some results. Great news about having no fracture. Hopefully the sprain has healed by now since it has been like 10 days since the MRI, right? At least it feels like it has been that long. I will say though, the tendinitis is probably the biggest concern. I have it in my knees and achilles on both legs. Believe it or not though, the more I exercise, the less they hurt. My doctor told me that keeping the blood flowing keeps the pain down and he has been right. Back in March when we were all sick and I wasn't working out as much they hurt more. Even now with the running, my knees really don't hurt much. Before if I even touched the tendons it hurt BAD. Now if I really press on them they are only a little sore.

My point is, once you get the OK to workout on the foot without making the sprain worse, even if it is sore just keep moving. Although I am sure right now you are dying to keep moving again.

As far as the bike goes, glad you found one. I tried to spend as little as I could too. Maybe you can find a good one on craigslist. Either way, glad you will be back at it soon.

Thanks everyone! I'm so excited that it isn't broken that it's not even funny. I was so worried that I would be stuck in the boot for another month! I scheduled PT before we leave for DC because I want to see what they think. I am also going to pick their brains about things I should do to make my running better and minimize the risk of injury. If nothing else, that makes PT worth going in my eyes. I did tell the ortho office that I can only do once a week though. I will just do the rest of the exercises at home in between visits.

I usually wear Danskos to work and anyone that has worn them knows that they are not very forgiving and don't bend well. But they make my plantar fasciitis feel good so I wear them a lot. Today I put it on my left foot and it rubs right where the tendonitis is so I changed my shoes. Other than that I do not have any pain at all.

I think this is a great idea. You may only go for a couple visits but if you get some info to help you stay injury free then the visits will be well worth it.

You also haven't mentioned your weight loss in a while. How much have you lost since you started the thread? If your not comfortable sharing that's fine. I was just curious.

Weight loss? Am I supposed to be losing weight? Just kidding. I've been slacking. I have lost a grand total of about 5 lbs. The 6th one comes and goes. Over and over. I have not been true to Weight Watchers for a bunch of different reasons. Mostly because I am not preparing my meals in advance and I am not planning dinners. I have made some changes to the way I eat. I have stopped eating everything on my plate and when I am full I am done. I don't eat every single treat offered or available. Now if I start eating something and I'm not excited to be eating it, I stop. Those things sound like common sense, and they are. But I wasn't doing them. Also I really lost my motivation once I could no longer run. So instead of figuring out what I could do I just whined and sat around. I've had a lot of celebrations over the last month and I have not come to terms with how to deal with them since they usually involve food. I'm working on it, and hopefully I will regain my motivation once I get moving again.

I went to physical therapy and told the therapist that I really didn't know why I was there since it feels so much better. BUT since I am here, I have questions for you. He was a good sport. I told him exactly what I had done and how I had done it. He suggested new support inserts for my running shoes and said that the ones I have are not supportive enough. He gave me some exercises to increase the stability of my ankle but also to strengthen my quads and hopefully help me avoid injury during the rest of my training. He told me that my day to day sneakers are not supportive enough and that I really should not wear them. He suggested that I get either stability or motion control sneakers. He was definitely in agreement with me getting a bike and getting out there on it. Especially since he is a bicyclist. lol

I told him that I am going to Washington D.C. for the next 2 days and will be walking around a lot. He suggested that I wear the running sneakers with the new inserts. One, to break them in and give my feet time to get used to them. Two, to see if my foot swells at all. He said if it doesn't then I should be good to start running .... slowly.... Not super confident in starting slowly since I am already slow, but I will take it! He said to come back in 2 weeks and let him know how it is going.

So the plan is to walk my behind off the next 2 days and see what happens. If nothing happens, then I will start moving again. AND I need to get back in control of my diet... No more excuses.

Well, it stinks that you are going to have to buy some new shoes and inserts but it is better than having a broken foot. Hopefully things go well on your DC trip.

As for the weight loss. I totally get where you are coming from. I had previously lost 30 lbs a few years ago. Then the issue with my shoulders started. I began working out less and less until the surgeries and then none after for months. Once I stopped exercising I began eating and put 20 of the 30 lbs back on. It just seems easier to focus on the eating while working out. But, it is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as you lose it eventually and keep it off that is better than losing it quick and packing it back on.

Thanks! I probably won't run out and buy new shoes right away. Instead I will wear my running sneakers around for a bit. I'm usually in dress shoes (for work) or flip flops (at home) during the summer anyway.

Yesterday we walked about 2 miles through DC. I wore the new inserts the whole time. The top of my foot didn't swell or have increased pain. The soles of my feet are tired but I was on my feet all day and the new inserts feel really stiff. So all is good. I'm going to resume my workouts but I'm not exactly sure at what point to begin. I was 6 weeks through the 5k program. I'm really wanting to do a 10j on June 14th for proof of time but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

So today I was able to wear my work shoes. That is a big deal because earlier the tendon was still too sensitive for me to wear something that rubbed on it. Tomorrow I plan to resume exercising. I'm not sure what that is going to entail just yet. Most likely it will mean getting on the treadmill in the morning before work because it is just too darn cold for me to get outside so early in the morning. The only hesitation I have is that I do not want to irritate the tendonitis. But I am looking forward to it. After work today I am going to look at a couple of bicycles that I found on Craigslist, one for me and one for my hubby. Hopefully they are decent and then I can add that to my routine.

Yesterday we planted our garden. Peas, green beans, carrots, leeks, onions, cucumbers, lettuce and spinach. Plus a bunch of spices. I'm so looking forward to fresh veggies. That is my favorite part of summer.

My husband told me over the weekend that he is ready to start "doing something" about his weight. I'm hoping to get him to tag along with what I'm doing some. He does have some medical concerns that will limit what he does, particularly lower back and flat feet. But I'm hoping that if he loses some weight they will be less of an issue. Crossing my fingers that he means it.

I hope your first day back exercising goes well and you stay injury free.

That is great news about your husband wanting to get healthy too. I think as long as his health issues aren't related to heart, lungs, or other major organs than anything is possible. I have a herniated disk in my back, and have had a belly button hernia for a couple years now. I used to let that stuff be my excuse. The hernia has been bothering me but not enough to stop me from exercising anymore.

But, you are correct when you say losing weight will help him. It has helped me and losing weight typically helps with just about any physical problem. Think about it, if you take a healthy person and force them to lug around an extra 30, 50, or more pounds 24/7 then things will just tart hurting, no matter what kind of shape they are in.

I also think you will all enjoy your vacation to Disney much more if you are lighter. When I went last August my back and legs were killing me and I went by myself so I could take my time and go at my own pace. I can't imagine if I was chasing my kids around how much more pain I would have been in. My goal is to be 50 lbs lighter by this trip. I am looking forward to seeing how much more I enjoy the trip being in shape.

But, congrats to you. It is because of you taking the step to make yourself healthier that your husband now wants to as well. That is awesome!!!

Thank you! I have to say that as much as I'm looking forward to working out again, I'm nervous about a few things. One is that I've lost more endurance than I realize. The other is that I will either reinjure my foot or injure something else. Last I'm worried that I won't enjoy it as much as I was. overthinking things as usual.

I got up and ran this morning. I did not feel very motivated and just wanted to sleep but I did it anyway. I didn't finish the workout. I made it a grand total of 0.67 miles in 14 minutes and then stopped. My lungs were burning and I was just plain tired. I guess I won't be doing the 10k in 3 weeks after all short of a miracle. Time to start plodding forward again. On the plus side there is no pain in my foot and nothing else hurts either. I had fallen off the whole eating healthy and drinking my water thing too. So this morning I had a protein shake and I am having a cup of coffee. The rest of the day I am going to focus on getting in my water. Here's to starting over!
