Pin trading for kids - Dream

Hi everyone.

We were in WDW back in October and my boys (5 and 3) LOVED trading pins. While there they had the pin trading centers (I know one was in Epcot) where people had books of pins to trade with kids (they would trade anything for anything from that book). I know on the ships they have the pin trading with officers thing, but are they open for trading with kids or is it more for the serious pin collectors? Also, are there enough CMs in the stores that have pins to trade, or should we just leave their pins at home?

Thanks!

I am curious as well. My kids only started pin trading after our last cruise so I don't remember if cast members on board have them or not.

I know there is an officer pin trading time from looking at past Navigators but other than that I don't know how much opportunity there is to trade.

On the Fantasy there is a pin trading night with the officers. The traders were primarily children on our last sailing. Same rules apply as at WDW. They will trade any pin on their lanyard for any pin your child wants to trade. I asked my kids if they traded in the shops and they did not know. They do sell pins in the shops and from a kiosk that they bring out during pin trading night.

Thanks for the info. I just didn't want to bring my kids to it just to find that there were a lot of *serious* collectors. They would have been heartbroken if they couldn't trade any pins. May have to "invest" in some pins that they would want to trade away!

There is the special pin trading night with the officers in the main lobby. There is also a pin kiosk and most nights at about 7 one of the cast members is there trading, by the WD theater. All the cast members in the shops have lanyards and will trade at any time.

Most of the cast members at guest services also wear lanyards, and there are a few books of pins behind the desk they will let you look at and trade. A few other cast members, usually those handing out wet wipes at the buffets, wear lanyards.

I even got one as a gift from our cabin host when he saw mine.

Pin trading is one of my favorite activities. You might want to only take some of your children's pins if they have a lot.

This is my experience as well. If the store isn't busy, you can ask a CM to show you their pins (they take them off when it's too busy).

I wear my lanyard in the evenings and trade with CMs or other passengers.

A few times I've seen a pin worn by a CM and they will "hold" it until I can return with my lanyard or a pin to trade.

So glad to hear that they have lots of opportunities to trade on the ship because my boys loved it so. Tho, we started with some pins we got from ebay last time - not sure how keen they would be to trade away the ones they have collected. So, we may have to start with some "new" ones from ebay to trade away.
