Moderate Resort

We are planning a trip in October. We stayed at POR in April of 2012 and absolutely loved it. During our first family trip we stayed at Pop and loved it, too. I didn't think we would like POR as much as we did. With that in mind, I'm investigating all the moderates, just in case. What recommendations or warnings do you have for the moderates?

We just had our first stay at CBR at Thanksgiving. Even though it was a very busy week in the parks, it was not noticeable at all at the resort. Very peaceful and pleasant resort.

The only moderate we've stayed at is CBR and we loved it. The grounds were beautiful, the food court had a lot of variety, the pool was fun, and the bus transportation was great. CBR is a large resort, but we didn't mind the walking as the caribbean atmosphere was nice. Also, CBR is scheduled for room refurbs sometime this year (I think starting in April).

We've stayed at both CBR and POR. We usually like everything, but the bussing system at CBR was quite a bother. I won't stay there again because of that reason. The quiet pools were great there; however. My choice would be POR or POFQ for a moderate choice. The piano bar at POR is great. Check it out on Tues, Wed, Thurs nights.

We have stayed at POR, POFQ and CBR with CBR being our favorite. We like that every village has it's own bus stop so you are never far from one. Our DS much prefers the main pool at CBR over the others. We like how CBR is laid out. Even when the resort is at capacity it never feels like it because you are not right on top of others. There is such a laid back relaxed atmosphere at CBR that is such a nice change from the craziness of the parks.

You can't go wrong with any of them, we just happen to love CBR.

After seeing some recommendations of CBR, I started looking just a little bit. The rooms look kind of cheesy, but the pool and food court look interesting. Are the rooms better in person?

We like the rooms at CBR and don't find them cheesy. They are scheduled for a refurb starting in April and will be getting queen beds.

Honestly the only 2 that I would recommend are POR & CSR...

Both are very close, but CSR puts it over the top because of the best bus service out of all resorts, including deluxes...

Both have great feature pools, Food court is excellent at POR, but you have to search for aseat while your food is getting cold. CSR has PM which I personally enjoy. Food choices are almost as good as POR but you already have your table ahead of time, therefore no cold food.

Theming is great at both , edge slightly to POR. Bus service is where these differ though, due to the fact that CSR is a convention resort...Never were full to and from the park... Drawback to POR was that this was the opposite...Always packed....POR does have a great lounge though, (YeeHaw Bobs, & Has the boat to DTD..

Now I know POFQ is the sister resort to POR, but nowhere do they compare..POFQ is waay smaller and closer up ( Claustrophobic ) for my tatse..Theming is ok but the pool is on the kiddish side.

CBR Just don't get it...Thats all.

Another thing I forgot to mention-the ages of my DDs. They will be 8 and 5 on this trip, if that makes a difference.

We are "beach" people and therefore chose CBR for our first stay --- and everyone since! We love the theme and actually like the spread out feel. Yes, that does mean you may have a 10-15 minute walk to Old Port Royal (food court, main pool, shop) but it is very pleasant.

Also, there is a bus stop at each of the island villages so you are never far from a stop. This also means that sometimes you are the first stop and sometimes you are the last, before leaving the resort. This is the deal breaker for a lot of people but isn't a big deal for me since it's all we've known.

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the mods... :D

We have been to all 4 moderates and each has plus and minus to them. I really feel the theme has to fit your family to work. Disney photos and the photos on these threads really are true to what you are getting.

We love CBR! Looking forward to the refurbs. This is definitely our favorite resort.

Making our 3rd visit to CBR in May, love it!
We do make a point to stay in a preferred building but well worth the extra $$.
Transportation has never been a problem for us....bus stop maybe 30-45 seconds from your room....and with the age of your children the pools at CBR can't be beat!

POR was our favorite moderate before we bought our DVC. Loved the atmosphere and the theme and the food court as well. Very relaxing !!
