Candy Cane Inn vs. Ramada Maingate

We have 3 adults and two kids traveling. I see that they are both within walking distance to DL. I am looking at both hotels as they both have double queen rooms. They both have free parking, free wifi, free breakfast. Ramada has brand new rooms on special that is near the cost of CCI and free roll away beds. Which one is the better choice- close to Downtown Disney, Maingate, size of room.

Keep in mind that CCI's rooms are fairly small. It's my favorite nearby hotel, but with 5 people, you will be really crammed. The biggest advantage is the free shuttle and the fact that you don't have to cross Harbor when walking to the parks.

Maingate is okay--haven't stayed in their new rooms yet, but they do have suites (which might better suit the size of your group) and the walk is a little shorter. The atmosphere isn't as nice as Candy Cane, and the breakfast isn't as good.

Neither one is close to Downtown Disney, but you can get to it from the parks easily and the parks are close to both. If you happen to be going to the far end of DTD (like say, The Rainforest Cafe), you can drive over and park for free for 3 hours.

Hands down CCI. I have stayed at both and would not return to the Ramada but frequent the CCI. Rooms are slightly smaller at CCI but its not an major difference.

I haven't been to Maingate, but CCI is a great choice because when your feet are dog tired, they have a shuttle that you can get on right outside the parks that goes there and back every 30 minutes, so you don't have to walk it. It doesn't seem far now, but after you've pushed it in the park all day, sometimes it's just nice to sit in the AC bus of veg for 10 minutes, especially if you have bags from shopping.

Also, the CCI is very quaint and cozy, not the typical motel. And it's right behind the CARS facade, so you "feel" very close. Also it is a nice walk and you don't have to cross Harbor, as the PP pointed out.

If it was a standard room at Ramada vs standard at CCI, then CCI hands down!

New room at Ramada vs standard at CCI, then I would choose Ramada. I have stayed in the new rooms at the Ramada. They are really nice and spacious, much bigger then the room at the CCI. The bathrooms are gorgeous. Two sinks are separate from the shower/toilet, which made getting ready a lot faster. We are a family of 4 and felt this room was really spacious for us. The CCI has a better breakfast for sure.....tons more options than the Ramada. Also be advised that I've gotten emails from the Ramada stating they will be starting renovations to the lobby, which means construction/noise. I would for sure call and ask when the renovation will be going on to see if that will affect your trip. Katie the manager and Jessica the assistant manager are super helpful. Hope that helps.

We enjoy Ramada Maingate. The pool area is great for kids, more so than the CCI pool, I believe. Note that Ramada currently has construction going on. If your little ones are going to nap midday and need silence, choose CCI. We think Ramada's location is perfect. SO EASY, even with kids.

I MUCH, MUCH prefer the Ramada. We just stayed in the superior 2-queen room in September. For our April '14 trip to save $75, we would go back to the Deluxe WITH FIREWORKS view ... rooms are just about the same size as the new superior, have adjustable shower heads (my husbands 1 complaint about the superior - just a plain shower head). You have to get the "deluxe with fireworks" view room, though for the bigger room. Same amenities and more room to place luggage (superior has an armoir rather than an extra rectangular table to lay out a suitcase and "stuff").

Hubby wants to try the CCI again - this is our 13th-ish visit in 7 years, we stayed at CCI in 2008, didn't care for it too much. If we do choose CCI in April, we would get premium room at CCI because we are so used to the VERY LARGE deluxe premium rooms at Ramada (large enough to fit a double stroller AND 4 huge suitcases with room to walk around).

The one HUGE, HUGE downside of CCI, for families is if you do not have a confident pool kid (my 4-year old is NOT), the CCI pool is not zero-depth entry ... Ramada's is AND has a bunch of water cannons/funnels, fun things to play with if not IN the pool. but even for just splashing, my son will go in the 6in to 1-ft depth at ramada - perfect for him. So, if we stay at CCI, I know he will not go in the pool at all, which would be a bummer.

Just my 2 cents & what works for my family of 4 :-)

I can't speak to Ramada, but my family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids... though it's technically 5 adults now) always does fine at the Candy Cane Inn. We love the shuttle after closing the park down at midnight.
Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys.
That's what you've earned here tonight.
One game.
If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight.
Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can!
Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world.
