HELP! Where to stay with a 15b, 12b and 9G..

We have been to Disney many times, we have stayed on-site and off-site...never at a deluxe though...looking to stay at deluxe this time...we will be staying at resort much more this year, and maybe only doing 1 day or so at a park...so pools/entertainment for kids to do things at resort is important.

Rooms are also key....we like to have space...but would sacrifice SOME space for pools etc... my 9 yr old daughter will be turning 10 during our trip...she is pretty flexible with having 2 older brothers..

What are your recommendations??

I like the contemporary as you can see the MK fireworks every night and the water light show. The boats are fun to ride. If it rains you can ride the monorail to the other resorts to check the out , shop and eat without getting wet. The food options are good.

Are you planning on renting a villa? I believe most standard room, even at the deluxe resorts, have a max. capacity of 4 guests.

As far as which resort to book, I think anything but GF would be appealing to the kids, but the theming at WL, AKL and Poly are more exciting. I'd personally go with WL, but just because love the theming.

Yes, I would love to stay in a villa, as long as the price is not too out of the ballpark!

Just wondering which resort would have the best pools/slides...etc.

From experience with kids those ages and where we stayed, they enjoyed BC and AKL. BC has the awesome pool and walking to Epcot. AKL had the animals. They loved the themeing at both resorts.

What are your recommendations??
For your kids (ages 15, 12 and 9), I recommend the Contemporary (Magic Kingdom view, if possible),particularly if they have never been before and may never again get a chance to stay there while they are around that age.

You kids are old enough that they can explore the main building of the Contemporary on their own, walk from your room to the elevator & take it down to the Grand Canyon Concourse to visit the Contempo Café for food & snacks, shop in one of the stores, or even stop for a short visit in the arcade...that little bit of independence will be a great thrill for them. With a monorail train running through it every few minutes, the place feels like "where it's all happening". You kids are the perfect age for the Contemporary!

Adults may recommend Animal Kingdom Lodge but I think your kids age will love the Contemporary. If you expected to spend most of your time at Epcot then the Beach Club might be better for location reasons, otherwise the Contemporary is best for their ages. My bet is that most kids, if given a choice between the Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge would pick the Contemporary. And I have read that the "you can see the animals from your room" at certain rooms at AKL is not as big a deal as it sounds. You don't get to see a bazillion different kinds of animals.

There is a Disney transit boat from the Contemporary that regularly runs and can take you across the lake to visit Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness for further exploration. And if you would like to "drive" your own boats, the Contemporary has a large lake and lagoon for two-person speed boats.

You can ride the monorail from inside the Contemporary to stop and visit at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian, and you can even switch monorails at the Transportation & Ticket Center so that you can ride a monorail to (and through!) Epcot at night.

If you book a theme park (i.e. Magic Kingdom) view room, you & your kids can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks each night from your hotel room balcony!

At the Contemporary, you are "in the middle of it all" and can easily venture forth by boat or monorail to visit five other Disney resorts...and walk to Magic Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is much more isolated. If you will be only having one theme park day and spending most of the time at your resort, the Animal Kingdom Lodge may not be the best choice.

I have stayed at many every Disney hotels, from one stay at a value on a side trip during business travel, to the "moderate level" (but very beautiful) Riverside, to deluxes including the Contemporary, the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian, the Beach Club, and Wildermess Lodge, plus several Disney villas. While Riverside is my favorite and the favorite of my kids, they also love the Contemporary.

I asked DS14 (sitting next to me) to rank them. Here's his order if he were able to pick:

1) AKL
2) Poly (I would stay away due to construction)
3) Beach/ Yacht Club
4) Wilderness Lodge
5) Boardwalk
6) Contemporary
7) Grand Floridian

I'm sorry. I should have clarified. We've visited them all numerous times, but haven't stayed at them all and AKL falls into that category. DH and the boys fell in love with it and it's number one on their list of where they would like to stay. The theming really appealed to them.
I know the pool slide isn't particularly exciting, but my boys are actually at the point where they don't really go down the slides much anyway. The theming of the pool area is great.

The only 2 resorts on property that the boys are really against staying at are Grand Floridian and POFQ.

On a somewhat unrelated note, you mentioned maybe only doing a day or so in a park. You may want to think about what park(s) that would be. We have relatives in FL that we visit and do side trips to WDW so a lot of our WDW trips are very short. (1-3 days) We don't like to stay in a resort that is in view a park we aren't going to as it is like a big tease to us.

Not really. Poly, CR, BC, YC, BW all have many standard rooms that accommodate 5 (2 queen beds and a day bed).
