Another change to Onboard Booking?

My TA just posted this on FB

DCL – Block Out Dates for Onboard Sales Offer

The DCL Onboard Sales offer has changed as of Dec. 13, 2013, to include block out dates during peak and holiday sail dates. Existing onboard sales reservations with bookings already on these peak and holiday sail dates will be allowed to sail utilizing the applied discount and appropriate onboard credit.

Guests with existing future cruise bookings that were secured utilizing the onboard booking discount who wish to further modify their sail date to one of the block out sail dates within 18 months of the original booking will be unable to keep the 10% discount off of prevailing rate. However, these Guests will still maintain the appropriate onboard credit and reduced deposit amounts, if applicable (sailing 7-nights or longer).

Going forward, all new onboard sales bookings will be informed of the block out dates through onboard collateral.

Yikes - thanks for sharing. Any idea what the "blocked out dates" are? I'm assuming Xmas and New Years but I hope not summer or possibly some Spring Break dates going forward.

Well darn, I was all excited to book another cruise when we got onboard but now there are exclusion dates? This is getting more complicated.

Well, there goes the idea of a NYE cruise! I'd hate to pass up a deal for it.

Is this from DCL or from your TA? Is it possible this is one of those TA-specific things like some (I believe Costco for one) have?

I agree, now I'm really glad we booked our 2014 NYE cruise (had a dummy cruise on file) when the 2014 dates came earlier this year. Looks like we won't be booking a 2015 NYE or Christmas cruise any time soon with the new restrictions. Oh well, we'll just have book other dates.

I was just thinking that I am glad I switched to Alaska just before this and to add, I wish I had booked the Med as well.

Maybe it won't be applied to summer.

I have a spring break 2015 cruise booked. If I cannot reshop while on board to in Feb to get the credit and discount I will 100% cancel it. It is already 2200 more than I am paying this spring break!

The discount wasn't going to be $2000 even with the OBB discount.

I just asked my TA about this and she hadn't heard anything, so called DCL. She messaged me on FB while talking with the rep and waiting for them to check with a supervisor. According to them, you will lose EVERYTHING if you book for one of these dates. She was also told that there are A LOT of blocked dates.

Wow!! This is crazy!! I am so disappointed. There is really no way to get a discount now for a family, esp. one of our size. We have to go at peak times as is, now you can't get a discount beyond the 18 month time frame AND you can't get a discount for the peak times! Guess this next sailing may be our last. Seems a little unfair to change everything like this. I mean I get 18 months OR the blackout dates, but both?! If I wanted to sail in October or November I could already get a discount waiting for GTY but I can't. Seems less "family friendly" and with the prices going up so much and us already needing two rooms with our family size. I am so sad.

ETA: I noticed this list only goes to the first week of April 2015. I am wondering if our cruise, which is over April break, will also be blocked then? Seems like they blocked all the Christmas/ New Years, and Feb breaks and the April spring breaks in 2014. Also it includes some Med cruises and some Alaska!!
