anyone ever do this on a Disney cruise?

DH was wondering if any gents have ever gone on the boards here and tried to gather those interested in meeting up on the ship for a poker game. Since gambling is not allowed, he was thinking that he would bring his chips and everyone would settle up afterward.

Thoughts on this? We are on the 6/28/14 cruise to E. Caribbean, btw.

Sounds like a question that should be posed on your cruise meet thread.

Personally, I don't think I'd book a Disney cruise if I was looking to gamble. There are other cruiselines you can do that on.

Yep, should be on your meet thread.

I would personally jump on it in a second if it was my cruise, great idea! There are probably a handful of parents looking to play some poker with new friends in a friendly low stakes game.

Yep, I put the question on the Meet thread as well. Just wanted some idea as to how the notion may be received.

Sounds like a great idea! I would love to learn how to play poker.

Obviously, DCL does not have casinos; however, I don't think a friendly game of cards would be a problem. I agree with the earlier post, that the cruise meet group would be a good way to arrange this.

One thought, you'd most likely need to play in someone's room. I would think DCL would take a dim view of such activity in a public space. Hopefully, someone is in a room that has a real table in it for you to play.

Oh, and I'll point out that there gals out there who also play poker, not just "gents"

If he is willing to bring his chips, so much the better! My case of chips would be too heavy to fly with, would be a hassle. Probably would be worth to buy the cheap plastic ones at a Wal Mart or Target once near the port.

I'm a decent poker player. I personally have no patience for beginners though. So if I were to join, I would want to make sure the players knew enough to make the game competitive. Nothing worse than a beginner that hasn't taken the time to learn the rules or etiquette.

As long as you are playing with poker chips, DCL would not have a problem.

I know some gals that play very good poker, don't count them out! They are truly the minority in the poker rooms though, so odds are very high that only guys would want to play...

I don't see why he couldn't play in a public place. It's just a card game. It's not like he's organizing a chicken fight.

Don't they have playing cards in the "Sports Pub" on each ship already? They have board games, so I doubt anyone would bat an eye at a group of people playing cards. We were betting on Jenga one night and no one seemed to mind.

I have seen people playing poker up on the pool deck at the tables/chairs along the side of the ship (between mid-ship and forward). I have seen this on many cruises and nobody ever seemed to have a problem with it. Have also seen people playing in Promenade Lounge.
