We did have to go through the outside queue at GMR except during EMH. BUT I Did notice a big difference in the lines at TSMM and Winnie the Pooh. The CMs would have standby and FP people wait, while the "mixed" part of the line in the front dwindled down, then they would let some through and they would nearly walk to the front of the line. But there was always a long, empty portion of the line between where the "mixed" line ended and the others behind them waited at the standby and FP "holding" areas. During busier times the "mixed" part of the line was a little longer, but during slower times the "mixed" line was very short before the next group was allowed to enter. This made the line appear longer from the outside of the rides.

I noticed something like this too on a recent visit. It was like they didn't want people waiting on the stairs that go up so they let those clear completely before letting more people in.

Yes and no. Each vehicle has 2 cars (a front half, and a back half). And sometimes there will be 2 vehicles going together. But there is still only 1 driver per vehicle

Nope. The amount of people in a vehicle depends on how busy the preshow is (or on how the loading is)

They can fix the problem of sitting in the far rear very easily. Insist that the announcer not talk about each room until he gets all the way forward to the exit.
That isn't always possible. Some scenes you have to start speiling by a certain point

There is no way around that. And they can't just fill those cars when there are extra people in the queue. If they don't have staff for the second interactive scene they can't use those cars.
If there isn't one scene, there won't be a vehicle running for it (so instead of a pair of vehicles, there will only be one)

We wondered if they were running the ride at half capacity all afternoon.
There are many reasons why a vehicle would be running empty. Believe me, it won't be sent empty for no reason

At the end of my ride I suppose they ran the empty forward pair through the sets around to the final movie scene to park until they get the next request for the cowboy scene or a larger crowd shows up.

I would think that by now Disney has enough guest data including for early versus late Thanksgiving and Sunday versus Wednesday Christmas to schedule the proper number of vehicle pairs for Great Movie Ride.
Depending on the time of year, there may only be 1-2 vehicles for Western (and it doesn't run as long during the day). So if you just miss one, it can be a bit of a wait.

Last week DH and I noticed [I]exactly[I] what the OP stated - we were held in the movie room and only one of the 2 cars was loaded. This was the first time we experienced this, and we've been coming once a year since 1980 - and since we don't have kids, all our trips have been at slow times. It may not related to FP+, but it certainly seemed like a new change to us.

The major reason why there is an extra queue outside is simple... our line was not originally set up for FP, so we had to make work what we had until WDI changes the queue. Because of the way the FP queue works, it makes us not be able to use a good 50% of the queue thats already built, hence adding our extended queue outside to help cover. But the same amount of people have been riding the ride as usual... you just have to walk a bit more.

As for seeing vehicles going around empty, there's lots of reasons... training (a CM won't take a live show until they are ready of course), taking the vehicle on/off the track, maintenance issues, etc.

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality.

And here in lies the problem. No one ever NEEDED a FP for TGMR, but now we do?

I've only ridden a couple of times, we tend to do this ride just once every couple trips. So definitely not an expert on queuing for this ride lol. But I did ride last week and at the end where you watch the movie clips, they had all 3 cars in there at once.

I don't see this as a "problem". If Disney puts Fastpasses in at every single attracton, the options are there for everyone. That means the guest gets to pick and choose what THEY want to do. Not someone else determining popular and not-so-popular attractions. When my son was younger and went more often, we had to do The Great Movie Ride every trip and maybe even twice in a trip. My son loves movies and it was important to him so if Fastpasses were available, we'd probably would have gotten one.

Last time I went was the first time I got to see the Western option. I have probably ridden this thing a dozen times, and that was my first time on the Western. I was pretty stoked.

I know this thread isn't really about that, but I had to get that in here.

I did notice they moved the beginning of the line from the front room to winding way around the outside, which did seem unnecessary, I will agree.

Disney has no motive to make guests wait longer.

I get what you're saying the motive is, but that still doesn't make sense. No matter how you slice it, when guests are in line, Disney is losing money.

Disney wants you on the ride and off so you can spend money in merch stores and restaurants.

They did not have two tour guides at opposite ends of a coupled pair talking at the same time.

With two tour guides on a coupled pair their voices would conflict for guests sitting near the middle (at the coupling).

I don't recall but moving three active car pairs into the final room would have a problem. Either the people in the first pair would be waiting in darkness or the people in the third pair would miss much of the program.

Hotel scam! Someone "from the front desk" calls your room phone or knocks on the door, usually after midnight, asking for your credit card number to complete your billing or you will be kicked out. Don't give it to him. It can wait until dawn when you stop by the front desk. This includes Disney's resorts too.

It doesn't happen much. I think we saw it a year ago though.

Yes they do. The Westen show is done year-round (I personally experienced it 2 weeks ago)
