Maybe they're hoping it will deter people from running up the stairs if Walt's glaring at them.

Bummer on it being the last day already. Great photos though and kudos for the early rising. I always say I will.....but I never do. I don't remember that picture of Walt, but it is a tad on the sinister side! Put a bigger mustache and a hat he would have a good face!

Loved your trip report. We just booked for Feb 2015 (our 2nd cruise). I was worried that we had so much fun the first time that the second would be a little of a disappointment but it doesn't look like it your report !

LOL...Especially when it's such a relaxed, happy photo of Roy on the other staircase! I mean, which staircase would you take?

It is what you make of it, no doubt. I was happy to find out that the good service & friendliness of our first was not a fluke. After that, everything else was icing on the cake .

Oooh...cake!

So 8am and back at the cabin for coffee with the better half and to roust the sleepyheads out of bed.
We had an early morning date with Lamica, the hair braider.
I hope I got her name right. She was from Jamaica and now I'm wondering if I'm just trying to make a rhyme.

TIP: If you or your family have any inclination to get your hair braided, go early in the cruise! There was always a line up the last couple of days whereas she was all by her lonesome for the first few days. She said that always happens -- people wait till the last minute and then decide they must get braids! In my defense, K had mentioned it a few times but I brushed it off, hoping she would lose interest

Look at all those opportunities we had over the past week!

We were not to be put off. Lamica said we should be there a few minutes before 9am.
So we got there at 8:30am. First in line, baby!
V decided she wanted braids too so we took first and second place in line.

Ooops, then I remembered that I forgot to feed them.
Imagine, being on a cruise ship and forgetting about food!
No way we were giving up our place in line (even tho' there was no one else around)
so I walked down to Goofy's Galley and scoped out the yummy pastries, etc. to bring back.

(Oh, and please note K is modelling the lovely 'free' t-shirt from the Cozumel dolphin encounter)

A couple more people joined us in line before Lamica got there, right on time.
She handed over her photobook so that the girls could pick out the style that they wanted.

K picked...a single cornrow braid.
Seriously?
That's it?!
All this for one eensy braid?
Even Lamica laughed and said she could have done that in two minutes the night before!

Oh well, one thing about K. She knows what she wants and isn't deterred.

So one braid she got.

By the way, that's not dirt on her face. That's the remains of a so-called 'temporary' pirate map tattoo left over from pirate night.

My budget conscious side was happy enough with her decision.

Then it was V's turn.
Now two things: V has very, very thick hair. And she has very, very low pain tolerance.
And she picked the headband cornrow braid.
Oh dear.

Fortunately, we were right beside here:

So I had an escape route.

"Oh, sorry kids...adults only!"

See, it even says so:

V's braids took considerably longer.

I had time to read the walls:

And then found a comfy seat ...

...to review the offerings:

I ordered the caramel latte (yum!)

...and decided I would be back later for the Toberontini!

I interrupt this trip report for a flashback, right back to our first day on the ship. Nay, our moment of boarding in fact! Dh was given the onerous task of booking our nominals (that is, our various beverage tastings). One job. He was given one job. And what did I say to him as he set off on his quest: "Oh, and honey...don't book more than one tasting a day"

So here we were back on our last sea day - with THREE beverage tastings booked: two for both of us *plus* he had whiskey tasting at 10pm.

In his defense, it was the only day they were offering Mixology and the chocolate/beverage pairing so whatcha gonna do?

So back to the Cove Cafe and my grand plans to sit and enjoy a Toberontini while DH indulged his whiskey passion later in the Outlook bar.

...Ah...anticipation!

But meanwhile, while I drank latte and daydreamed of Baileys, Kahlua and chocolate liqueur,
my eldest child was still sitting in the chair of braid torture - possibly driving away potential clientele.

However, she gritted her teeth and endured...
and ended up very pleased with the result:

So was I actually.
The cost wasn't that bad and I pretty much doubled it in tip as the poor woman had been very patient and very gentle.
I have brushed my dd's hair. I understood the challenge involved.

And hey, I did get her name right. I can read her namebadge in that picture! Woohoo...score one for me

Oh, and when we were first waiting there, an officer came past with (I assume) a maintenance CM. Eagle-eyed they'd spotted a loose bit of plastic on the plexi glass and by gum, with fifteen minutes this gentleman came by to fix it.

Take that, all those 'ooh, the Wonder is old...she must be broken down and shabby' naysayers!
Hmm...actually, I've never heard anyone say that but just in case anyone was thinking it!

So by now, DH had met up with us and now that the girls had finished their girly stuff, it was time for another walk around the ship.

Now that the whole family was reassembled, we decided to wander around the ship a bit to kill some time. Our first nominal wasn't till noon so we had a little free time yet. Dh hadn't had much opportunity to just explore the ship. On our first cruise he was still waiting for needed knee surgery so walking wasn't much of a pleasure for him back then.

First we wandered down to Deck 4. No cruise is complete without sampling the wonderful deck chairs. I'm still trying to figure out how to smuggle a couple of these off the boat. I think they'd be awesome on our patio!

Then we meandered along the deck, following the direction of the jogging track.

The Canadian in me loves that they remember to say 'thank you'

Numbers...it's all about the numbers:

Leading up to our cruise, I had posted a countdown photo of the day on our FB group, using only photos from our previous cruise. Now, without much forethought, I had started the countdown with 151 days left. Sooooo...by the time we were down to about 30 days left, I was having to be very creative at re-using the same photos in new and exciting (well, new anyway) ways! So it became the running joke that I was going to take a photo of *anything* with a number on it, just to make it easier for next time I had to do a countdown.

From Deck 4 it was back up to Deck 7 for a visit to the secret verandah. I love this quiet little deck and wanted to make sure the family got to experience it in case we didn't make it back on the ship before the Wonder gets 're-imagined'.

Overall their reaction was mostly 'that's it?'...

Oh well, I like it.

The walking wasn't as exciting as they'd hoped so we headed to Wavebands for the 11am Bingo. K didn't want to play but didn't want to go to the kids club so said she'd come and keep us company.

Mimosas for us and smoothies for the girls:

Our usual luck held true and no prizes for us

But that's okay because DH and I were like little kids waiting for Christmas because at noon we had the CHOCOLATE AND BEVERAGE PAIRING session. Chocolate? And liquor? Oh man, does it get any better?!?!?!

Lovin' your TR! You are soooo funny! We also love Wonder and can't wait to step foot on her next May! Too long to wait! I love the cartwheel pics! Hope to do the dolphin excursion someday!

Thank you for taking the time to share. I love how when I tap on the picture on my DISboard app that it doesn't take me to the beginning of your post. It takes me directly to your picture. How do you do that? I hope to do a TR when we so our cruise next year!

We made a point of getting a picture & video of her cartwheeling at every stop. Some day when I have a chance, I want to put them all together to show her cartwheeling through four countries

You're very welcome! It's a lot of fun to write up. I wish I'd taken more notes, etc. at the time but it was awkward with just my phone. Next time hopefully we'll have a tablet or something <ahem, honey?!> to make it easier.

I have no idea about the disboard app tho'. It must just be a default because I rarely even look at the app

Ah...Chocolate! Glorious chocolate!

But first, we had to do something with the kids. I wonder what it was? I suspect we just took them back to the cabin to watch cartoons. K was refusing to go back to the kids clubs by this point. Nothing against the clubs. I think she just didn't like that her big sis' was now too old for the kids clubs and didn't want to hang out there by herself.

So anyhooo....DH and I made sure to be prompt to the Cadillac Lounge for our tasting event! We were really excited about this one as the chocolate and beverage tasting hadn't been offered on our first cruise and we had read great things about it on the disboards. It's pricier than the others - I think it was $30 per person - but we would so do it again!

...And again...

...And again <hiccup>

It sold out very quickly as well, so definitely sign up asap if you're at all interested!

In fact, we were so prompt that they were still setting up!

Woohoo! look at all those drinking vessels

Our charming host for today's educational event was Sheldon ('bazinga') from Trinidad & Tobago.

Why type when the pictures say a thousand words?

Convinced yet?

Dh is

How sad....

So, what exactly were we drinking? Damned if I can remember. Fortunately I took pictures precisely because I figured I'd forget five minutes after walking out of the lounge. My short term memory gets shorter every year.

Sheldon would have us take a taste of the beverage in question on its own first, then we would try some chocolate (nectar of the gods!), then try the beverage again to see the influence the chocolate had on the taste. I will be totally honest and admit that I couldn't always tell any difference. I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to the subtleties of tastings. But I would smile and nod knowingly. I didn't care. It was delicious.

Not necessarily in order of tasting...

There was red wine:

Champagne!

Total yum!

Port

And the one DH was waiting for.....

Glenmorangie Scotch!

Oh my! I'm not a whiskey drinker. DH is. But I gotta say, the combination of chocolate & whiskey (sorry...'whisky') is a match made in heaven! If I remember rightly, DH even scored an extra glass from someone else who wasn't a whiskey drinker. He thought he was going to get mine but no way was I letting it go!

There must have been something else that we tried. I think there were five glasses, weren't there? A white wine maybe from the photos? Dh will probably remember and prompt me when he reads this.

Or he'll read it and go "We went to a chocolate and beverage tasting???"

Yes, dear...and you took it very seriously:

Ah, I maligned him prematurely. Dh chimed in to say: "no, there were only the 4 and the order was Champagne, red wine, port, then whisky (And for the record I got 2 extras)."

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and eventually they had to crowbar us out of the lounge.

We went back to the cabin to pick up the girls and headed to BBB for an al fresco lunch.

I think we had intended on going somewhere else for lunch and ended up
at BBB sort of as a plan B.

We were very happy with our Plan B because it was a seafood buffet!

And we all (all except V) love our seafood .

Fortunately, V loves bread and cheese and there was always lots of that available, as you can tell by her tray at the top!

OMG, and I just remembered - that potato salad had LOBSTER in it! I think I went back for at least two more helpings after that tray (hey, there was a lot of alcohol to soak up!)

She won't eat it, but she will play with it

Fun with crayfish!

K is testing out the colour changing properties of the t-shirt she bought in Grand Cayman
(or is it *on* Grand Cayman?)

One nominal down and how many more to go?

Depends on who you ask!

Mixology!

Now that our tummies were happy, we had a few minutes to wander before our next fun event: MIXOLOGY!
This was another nominal we were excited to try.

Honest, we really aren't lushes! But hey, we were on vacation ... and wanted to support the local economy and all...

Random sitting area somewhere
(Hey, sorry...details are getting sketchy!)

Ooooh! Lots of stairs...all the way down!

Ha! Elevators again!

Specifically the 7th and 8th deck elevators.

And no, I didn't faceplant on the carpet after all the nominals

I just took a picture of it

Back to the action:

The Mixology class was at 2pm in the Cadillac Lounge and conveniently, the ventriloquist/comedian Michael Harrison
was doing his family show in Wavebands at the same time.

We set the kids up at a table to enjoy the show:

As you can tell, they were absolutely devastated that we were leaving them!

And then, footloose and fancy free, we skipped down to the Cadillac Lounge.

Artistic shot?
Or did someone forget the flash?

So we knew the drill by now...come in and they have your drinks all lined up for you (does it get any better?).
Again, I think there were five drinks but there's only four in the photo.
Hmm...counting is a challenge for me at the best of times...

From left to right it's I-don't-know, something-or-other, toilet-cleaner and something-yummy.

Dh will probably (hopefully) remember names better than I! I'll come back and add them when he does.

Oh yes, there's the fifth drink - the blue one in the tall glass!
See, I did know what I was talking about <snicker>

Unlike the other tastings, this one has an audience participation piece!
And yay, Dh got picked as the audience participator!

Ivan escorted him behind the bar - up until then I hadn't realized that the bar is completely closed off,
i.e. you can't just walk behind the bar, you have to go through
the staff only door through the behind the scenes area and then out another door behind the bar.

Did that make sense?

Anyway, DH and Ivan disappeared for a few moments and I wondered if I would really ever see DH again <sniff>....
Then he appeared behind the bar and all I could think was 'cooooool...he's in his natural habitat!'

Ivan then coaches the participant on how to make the selected cocktail.
And this is a full size cocktail, not the tasting sized!

Ivan encourages Doug - More! More!

The ingredients in whatever concoction was being concocted:

See! I finished mine all up!

Dh's finished product (which he got to drink, except I think I actually drank it).
There was a lot of alcohol in this baby!

Before we left we had to get a picture with Ivan. He was quite a riot.
Wow, do we look happy? Or toasted?

Toasted! Definitely toasted!

Hey, I'm just glad we remembered to find the kids before we went back!

Heck, I'm happy that we remembered we even HAD kids!
