If kids came knocking at my door a full week before Halloween, they'd get a big bag of Igotnothingforyou. Heck, it would be the same if they came a DAY before Halloween. Here, Halloween is on Halloween.

Here, I have seen them move it to Saturday if it falls on Sunday...or at least they used to do that, years ago, not so sure they even do it now.

But to have trick-or-treating a full week before Halloween? Never heard that one before. Seems extremely odd.

Exactly! I love Halloween, but the Thursday before Halloween is just a Thursday. I may have some candy, but it is just for me,lol. My porch light would be off. That is like wanting to change the 4th of July to another day.

If Adisneyqueen is from my area (and I suspect she is), the reason for Trick or Treat tonight is due to teachers work day tomorrow. It doesn't matter WHEN the actual date is. There is always a workday on a Friday late in Oct so someone decided it was a good idea......

If that's the case whoever did the school calendar screwed up. They should have had the workday on 11/1.

Although, if the workday has to be in October, that would explain why they have it this week.

I still think that's too far to push Halloween.

Yep, you're right! I'm from the same area.
But, actually it's not on Thursday b/c of teacher workday. When I was a kid, they had trick or treat on thurs. night and we would go to school on Friday and have our party in the afternoon. Way after I graduated they decided to make Friday a day off. I think it was too much for the kids staying up late, sugared up and going to school the next day.
One year they even tried having trick or treat on a SATURDAY AFTERNOON! I think this was about 1982? It did not go over well and they went back to Thurs. nights. Growing up, I was always told it was a safety reason.

OP again. I just have to share with you all that I am looking at friend's trick or treat pics of their kids on facebook and there is snow in the background. It's just too funny! On my street most of the snow melted, but other parts of town the ground is covered or somewhat covered. My kids wore boots.
One of my friends said her 3 year old woke up and looked outside at the snow today and said "is it Christmas?" So funny.

I'm truly smiling about it all. I don't understand Halloween not being on Halloween. I just can't get over it. Why can't kids be up late for one night - not even that late for most and be sugared up, as stated, to go to school? We all survived it. With glee.

I just don't get it. The first time I even heard of alternate days was on here.

How long has this been tradition to move Halloween to another date? Simply curious.

Despite my difficulty understanding - HAVE FUN!

I'm visiting my in laws in PA right now and there is snow here on trick or treat night. I don't get it!! It's freezing and it's a full week before Halloween. My MIL said trick or treating is always the 4th Thursday of the month.
