General Resort Check-in - everyone present?

When you check-in to your hotel, do all family members need to be there? I know you you didn't used to, but I'm wondering if it's different now with Magic Bands being issued to each family member. The reason I ask, is that we have a split stay planned. The first night is a room only rate, and the next morning we check in again (same hotel) for the beginning of our free dining package. I'd like the kids to sleep in if possible, while dh checks us in. Then, we would all proceed to the park. Is this possible, or will we all need to go?

You can't leave the kids to sleep unless it isn't a Disney hotel the first night as the Disney system now needs you fully checked out of the first resort before they can check you into the new one.

You do not all have to be there

If it's the same hotel they may not have you change rooms, and you may be able to do it from your room phone. That was our experience the past 2 years. When I did my initial check in they told me I "May or may not" be able to stay in the same room, but both times I called that morning and got to stay.

Thanks! The first room only rate is at the same hotel as the free dining package. We have put a request in to stay in the same room. So, it sounds like dh can check-in on his own while the kids sleep. Thanks for the info!
