Is This the New Direction for Disney Dining? Upcharge for an Upgraded Meal?

I just saw this in the Allears newsletter. It's about Disney dining but also about the DDP.

Mods, feels free to move it where you think it is appropriate.

Kouzzina by Cat Cora at Disney's BoardWalk has introduced a new, seasonal, five-course prix fixe menu that will be offered every day. A beverage is not included, and no substitutions are allowed. The basic Disney Dining Plan is accepted -- the menu requires one entitlement, plus $19.50 surcharge. The Deluxe Dining Plan is also accepted -- one entitlement, plus $5 surcharge. A wine pairing is available for an additional $35.

I'm just posting this to see what others think. I'm not trying to create any controversy but do you think this is a possible change or progression of the DDP?

And will any other restaurants adopt this?

As of right now, there is nothing on the WDW site indicating the menu change.

Why would the surcharges be so different?

It's actually not a new idea. Marrakesh has had a surcharge for their feasts for the past several years when using the dining plan. When Monsieur Paul opened last year they also had an upcharge for their prix fixe menu. I think it has been eliminated if using the DxDDP, but is still required with the DDP.

As far as not allowing substitutions, that has been standard at any of the restaurants that offered a prix fixe menu, past or current. Likewise, if paying OOP, I don't think a beverage was included in the prix fixe.

Because the DLX DP includes an appetizer and the DDP does not.

We were offered the prix fixe menu when we were there last month. It was our first time at Kouzinna so I had no idea it was new. Wonder if they're testing it out to see if people would want it.

I think upcharging was introduced when Monsieur Paul opened. You can use your dining plan there but there is an upcharge.

I like it. I think it will increase the quality of some of the menu options.

Whether or not upcharges will become the new wave of the future with Disney Dining will remain to be seen but given the huge amount of guests who purchase the DP for the convience of having their meals pre-paid and considering that many if not most guests on the DP try to get the best value, bang for their buck I do not forsee many willing or wanting to shell out additional money for their meal.

That's what I am hoping. I think the reason we get "generic" subpar food is the reimbursement on the DDP is too low for better options!
