Sailing solo?

Any thoughts on sailing solo? I'm sailing on the Dream the week before Thxgiving and then headed to WDW to meet up with a friend and his family. Not sure what to expect. I last sailed on the Dream in 12/11 with my wife and DDs, but I'm now in the process of a divorce.

I sail solo all the time. I hate the single supplement but I love the freedom of travelling by myself. I find that I can interact as much or as little as I want.

I sailed somewhat solo last May. My boyfriend works for DVC and he was working during the day while on the cruise. The first night I went to dinner at my assigned table and I was paired with an older couple and their 30 year old special needs child and another couple with their 16 year old son. I felt like I was constantly talking and trying to get the two families to talk. It was a little awkward. I did warn the families ahead of time that I may or may not be back for dinner the rest of the cruise, just depended on whether or not my boyfriend could get a break to eat dinner with me. I did not end up returning. I was fine sailing "alone" and doing things on my own during the day. I'm actually in Maui right now for my first ME vacation. I LOVE being on my own schedule and not the schedule of my kids!

I have cruised solo and other then the single supplement I had fun. Do what you want, eat what you want, eat what you want On one cruise I met a few people while doing a tour of the the stage and then we ended up on deck playing games and doing a ship tour. Another time I was eating alone and two older ladies from Jersey that I had seen earlier came up and invited me to their table. So go for it... you never know what adventures you will have.

I know people always say if you pay double - why not bring someone? Well, because then you get the whole cabin (all closets, drawers) and don't have to worry about what time you get up, stay up to, etc., etc.

I sail both types - sometimes with a good friend, and sometimes solo. I enjoy both. Have a cruise with a friend coming up, and then a solo cruise. Excited about both.

I agree, PhantomsGirl. Solo trips and travelling with a friend are just different types of travel. I admit that I get a little offended by the "if you pay double, why not bring someone" comments because:
1) it implies that solo travel is in some way inferior to splitting a cabin.
2) it implies that if one can afford to travel solo and pay the single supplement, then that person should be subsidizing someone else's vacation.

I sometimes travel with a friend and I think we are pretty compatible travel partners -- both fairly easygoing and both rather independent and comfortable doing our own things.

I have some friends and relatives who I really would not enjoy sharing a cruise cabin with and sometimes it's really worth it to me to pay the supplement for my own space. If I'm planning on travelling solo, I just price the trip and consider the overall cost and don't worry about breaking down the single supplement.

Oh, I'm going. Flying down a day early to visit KSC and see Atlantis. Great memory seeing the shuttle launch from Fantasyland in 10/07 (DDs first visit). I have a ressie for Palo, but dining alone is daunting. Just not sure what to expect....specifically dining. I've done two cruises. One on Carnival Sensation and the Dream. I spent the last day in the cabin and infermary with my youngest DD, so I missed Castaway Cay. :-(

Cannot wait for my solo trip on the Dream in February. Planning to book Palo dinner and brunch and am really not concerned about dining solo. I do it a lot in life anyway.

With the exception of my first Disney cruise (I met up with some friends on the ship) I sailed solo five times on Disney and once on another ship. I find the freedom to do what I want when I want to be very liberating and not having to share my stateroom is perfection. They are several singles lunches offered if you are interested however I usually skip them. In addition I'm sure they will be a disboard group meetup on the ship if you are interested. You will be seated with other single cruisers or adult couples unless you requests your own table. Finally you will be surprised on how many people you meet. Try not to concentrate on the fact you are travelling solo and enjoy the shows, clubs, pool and aquaduck.

Is there anyone you have met on the meet and greet that would want to dine with you? I occasionally travel for work and have had to dine by myself. I thought it would be awful the first time I did, but I actually enjoyed it. I would try and focus on being on the ship and getting away. Unfortunately, I know what you are going through and I hope you can get some relaxation.
