Minecraft - need internet minutes?

Do I need to buy Internet minutes onboard in order for 2 devices to play in the same minecraft world?

No idea, DS loves Minecraft but plays solo only! DS had his 3DS and an iPad available on our 7 day cruise last year but never touched either as he was too busy with other things.

I would guess yes.
My boys play together on an ipod and ipad. They have to have wifi for it to work.

According to both kids, yes you do need internet to do that.

Honestly, the internet on the ship is so slow that Minecraft probably won't work properly. It's worse than dialup back in the old days. I'd recommend just planning on unplugging and not worrying about electronic entertainment.

I agree! A woman was complaining in the laundry room that she paid for a block of internet minutes and that half had been eaten up just waiting for a page to load. She said the signal and speed was awful! It made me glad I decided against buying any internet minutes and that when I look back, one of the best parts of the cruise was having my kids and I completely and totally disconnected from the world and just enjoying the ship and each other!

I totally agree. It's pricey and not very reliable. No way would I take my kids on a cruise only to spend more money on Internet connection so they spend their time in the room playing video games. But that's just me. I do realize some people need to have wifi to survive though.

Agreed! Much cheaper and much much faster to bring along a 56 k modem and three thousand miles of telephone extension cord. Trail that behind the ship, and you'll be all set!

We had unlimited wifi on our last cruise (Dream) and neither of my kids could ever get minecraft to load. Even getting emails was a timely process.

My kids played on their iPads separately. Joining does require internet, and as PPs said, the internet will not be fast enough to handle Minecraft. But my kids were happy enough playing separately and comparing screens (whereas at home they are constantly joining a server together). Happy sailing!

We are a unplugged family when we step onboard my DS 12 is a mine craft fan but I feel it's good to be unplugged for a few days plus they have video games in the clubs for them to play

Yes. October rates made it possible.
