Clear Up Dess Code For Me

Hello all! My family will be setting sail in just a few weeks on a 3-Night Bahamian Cruise on the Dream.

Can someone please put the dress code in English for me? Is there, or is there not a 'Dress Up' night? Or is 'Cruise Casual' the code for the entire trip?

I know there have been changes to this policy recently; I was just hoping someone could clear it up for me.

If it helps, we are sailing on the Oct. 31 sailing.

Thanks!

3 night cruises don't have a formal night. They may have a dress up optional night...it will be noted in your cruise docs booklet. The only change in the policy is now shorts are allowed in the dining rooms.

We sail Nov. 16th and I just got our cruise docs. I thought it was a mistake that shorts weren't on the no-no list for the dining rooms. REALLY? We can wear SHORTS?!

Absolutely. DCL only asks for no swim suits or tank tops. Even the formal nights are "optional" now - no reason for anyone to ever feel like they can't head to the MDRs on any night with a simple tshirt and shorts.

From the DCL website:

On 3-night cruises:
  • One cruise casual night—No swimwear or tank tops
  • One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
  • One "optional dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
On 4-night cruises:
  • First night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops
  • One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
  • One optional dress-up night—jacket for men, and dress or pantsuit for women
  • Final night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops
On 7-night cruises:
  • First night is cruise casual—no swimwear or tank tops
  • One themed night (pirate, tropical or other themed deck party)
  • 3 additional cruise casual nights—no swimwear or tank tops
  • One formal and one semi-formal night—two great opportunities to dress-up and take advantage of the onboard photography services. Though optional, we recommend: Dress pants with a jacket or a suit for men, and dress or pantsuit for women

5-night cruises is the same as 4-night cruises. One semi-formal, one pirate night.

Yes, but in the interest of decorum I would not wear Daisy Dukes or old ripped cutoffs. Clean, neat shorts are no problem.

But you CAN wear daisy dukes or ripped cut offs (not that they stopped people before - I know on my April 2012 cruise there was a young woman who showed her bottom biscuits off nightly in itty-bitty jean short cut offs ).

I'm sad they changed the dress code I think it's part of the cruise experience to dress up for dinner

I don't think it matters much. People who want to look nice will still look nice, even if its in a polo and cargo shorts instead of khakis. People who don't care can still look sloppy whether shorts are allowed or not.

Yep...people certainly can (but I would not!)

I think they made a mistake by not making the dress code more specific. Even ccl is more strict with the kind of shorts allowed.

On our cruise in September there was a girl with her "bottom biscuits" hanging out the bottom of a super short dress on our Enchanted Garden night. It was so bad that my seven year old pointed and asked me if that poor girl forgot her bottoms. I had to laugh when the girl turned around with a shocked look on her face.
