I really wish that Disney/DVC would make the laundry rooms in the DVC resorts key accessible. It's like that at BLT..at least it used to be. Would be nice to have it that way all over.

Not sure what the whole showing of room keys and parking passes means. Anyone can drive to a WDW owned resort and park there if they are visiting the resort. You don't need to show any ID. And sure, the tennis courts are open for any guest to use. But not the laundry rooms. Those are for those paying to stay at that resort. You have laundry facilities at your resort...that's where you do your laundry!

Is it OK for cash guests at a DVC resort to use the laundry? We aren't renting points, but are staying at SSR next year as cash guests.

Not at akv. We were there on points and had key issues getting into the laundry room and was accuse of not having that privilege. Showed I was and they apologised

the laundry is there for the use of the guests staying at the resort - not just DVC members. would ask at the front desk which is the closest to your room. they are not on the maps.

can't believe this post....

Thanks for the info.

Sorry if it seemed like a stupid question. But if you don't ask, you don't know!

Eh, there are only a few. So if everyone else is using them they aren't available to the people who have the right to expect to be able to use them.

I don't think it's "silly", actually, as the point is that the washers/dryers are free at DVC *because* the DVC owners have paid for them with their fees. BWV laundry is free, but BWI is not.

As far as whether or not you are 'allowed' to use them, I think that asking at the front desk is probably your safest answer. Let Disney decide who gets to use them and under what circumstances.

that is why they are not on the maps. now DVC could if enough members asked for it - put all the laundry maps on key entry only.

but right now they are only doing it for those attached to a hotel - that has it own pay laundry. think that was more for the hotel benefit than the DVC members.

BCV, VWL, BLT, AKL/V - the only exception is BWV - it gets so hot that the door open was a must.

all the 1-bedrooms and up have their own washer and dryer in the villas. So this is only for the studios.

They're not "free". DVC purchase & maintenance fees pay for them. If a NON - DVC guest damages the machines, guess whose money is used to repair/replace them?

They shouldn't have to assume that people are going to come in from other hotels to do laundry.

And people shouldn't assume that they have the right to do whatever they want. No one has the right to drive your car even if you leave the keys in it.

They are there because the studios don't has a washer/dryer in their rooms.
That is the only reason. Asked back in 1993. Plus it is what the other timeshares in the area do.

when OKW was new (DVC then) - most people put coins in the machine and guess what it cause more problems. First if the machine was not emptied it stopped working..... So now glad to know the machines actually refuse the money now.

this is not a benefit just for DVC members - go to the Marriotts, Hilton, etc timeshares in the area and you will find this.

it is the industry standard in Orlando.

just like to add my observations from another dvc owner. also there
i have concerns about the intent of the poster bragging how she
"help" herself...especially when she tried to defend her behaviors.

i don't think this is a popularity contest, so whether a dvc owner
doesn't object to your actions isn't the issue. "what is" to me,
is the fact that dvc monitor electric bills/wear & tear for
replacement costs. and those costs are paid for...not by disney
but the owners. so even if there wasn't another person in
the laundry room....does not mean it was for free. and i
don't have any doubt that you knew this.

because dvc-don does pay for this, his points are valid and you
are stealing. if it was free, it would have been available @
all resort. you knew that...and you planned your actions in advance.

...now someone not knowing for sure ,& just saw others using the room
might make the mistake of thinking they could use it. esp. staying @
the resort. but for you to "act" as if you didn't realized you shouldn't
or being innocence is not believable to me. it called "rationalization".
your own words is what i am basing this on.....i am sure most
recognized that your real intention...." how many times do you bring
laundry -must have "driven" not bus , eh?----instead your actions
indicated you planned this. so i think , that why dvc-don was riled
up.
we're blt owners, & i think that dvc did placed locks on that resorts-is
because dvc is aware that not all guests respect others...& with
different morals. i also think that the new dvc owners , in general -are
more aware of their dues and the hidden costs from those intruding
& stealing....even if it just a few pennies, it still taking something
that others are paying for....& no rationalizations you can come up
with will change that fact.

my profession is mental health....& rationalization create problems.
just like the poster jumping in to support, by thanking you-
fyi, that's ok, but there are interventions owner can take by
calling security ....won't that be a wonderful memory to "take
home."

I hope Disney picks up part of the cost for repairs to grounds/facilities considering they allow non-members to stay there for cash. It should be a percentage based on how much by year the resort was used by guests (or those they rent to) verses how much was used by guests paying Disney directly. We stayed at SSR before and this time we are staying at OKW. We are staying in a two bedroom villa so there is a washer/dryer in the room, but even if we were staying at a studio, Disney lists a washer and dryer as an amenity so if they are going to make it available to people paying cash for studios they should pick up part of the cost of repairs.

As for thinking you can use them when you aren't staying at the resort, I'm completely flabbergasted. I can't believe someone would even do that or try to rationalize that it is OK.
