Best cabin location on Magic?

Looking to book soon for spring.... we'll have a 7yo and 10yo + spouse. What is the best cabin location as far as noise, activity, ship movement, and so on? What are some things to consider for first time cruiser and first time DCL too?

I had an inside cabin on the first deck of the Magic and there was never any noise at all in the hallway. Once or twice a night we would hear a ship noise but it was never loud enough to wake me up (and I'm a very light sleeper!). We were very far forward and getting an elevator was always easy.

Correct. The best cabin location is "on the Magic."

We've had cabins Forward, Aft, and Midship, on decks 6, 7, and 8. We've not yet been disappointed by these locations. Everything was easily walkable, even using the stairs with our niece and nephew (9 and 7).

With kids, I'd recommend Midship or Aft... as high a deck as you can afford. Mickey pool, drink station, quick service dining, and buffet are 9 aft.... Movie theatre is 5 aft. MDRs are 3 aft, 4 aft, and 3 midship. Family pool, tunnel vision, arcade, and the new AquaDunk is 9 midship. Kids clubs are 5 midship.

The stuff at the forward end of the ship is more for adults (with the notable exceptions being the WD Theatre and Sports Deck).

I haven't noticed a huge difference in ship movement in the locations we've stayed. If you can, stay a couple cabins away from the elevator lobbies and laundry rooms (due to noise). Check potential cabin locations using the "stateroom reviews" option on DIS.

I agree, there are no bad rooms on the classic ships. We've been forward, midship, and aft and don't have a preference. While the appeal of higher decks works for some, we like saving money on the lower decks and having quieter hallways, faster access off the ship at ports, and always empty elevators heading up while using stairs to go down. The only exception is getting back on the ship after a port day, and then you don't need either because your room is right there!

We prefer forward rooms, especially on the classic ships. One reason is lack of hallway traffic, so not as much noise...though you could be stuck next to a rowdy family and then all bets are off. The officer quarters are forward through doors at the end of decks 5-8 and you will see officers walking by often. That might deter some noise as well? We don't feel as much movement there either. Love being rocked to sleep at night.

Our favorite spot on the Magic is deck 5 forward. Very quiet as it is a short hallway and not much foot traffic. I get motion sickness and have not had problems in this location. The kids clubs are down the hall, it is a few floors up to the pool deck and a few floors down to the dining rooms, shops and guest services.

I've been on deck 6 and 7 forward and they are not as quiet as deck 5 forward.

Our favorite so far has been deck 7 aft. The reason is there is a hidden balcony back there, so we book an inside cabin and then go and visit that area. It is nearly empty every time we go out there.
But, the correct answer truly is "on the Magic"...lol
I always joke that I would sleep in a broom closet as long as there was a bed and its on a Disney Ship!

We are in 7130, 29, 27. I believe that is aft 7 Magic, so that is where you are talking? Someone mentioned the "secret veranda", can you tell us how to find it? We wanted veranda but decided to use that for park tickets so we got interior while parents got veranda. But our group is growing, so this would be a great place to hang! Are there chairs on it already? Will any of it change with the dry dock/duck tail etc?

When we booked onboard this week, we were assigned #7120. We were told it was a Navigator's Verandah, but when I looked it up later it seems to be one of the "secret verandahs". Plexiglass with partial obstruction, I believe. Can anyone confirm this? (I also read that the mirror room 7160 is as well.)

Another for deck 5 forward. Very convenient to kids club and lab, WDW theatre area and midship, but still quiet.

It's the secret deck on deck 7. There are usually chairs out there and the door is locked at night. It is at the end of the hallway. The reference to secret verandah rooms are the reclassified staterooms.
