Booking a dummy with a "maybe" passenger?

I've mastered the art of booking a dummy cruise for our family of 4 and moving it when dates are released. But we're trying to plan ahead for "hopefully" an Alaskan cruise the summer of 2015. My parents are on the Dream in a few weeks so will book a dummy for us then. What info do they need? I'm assuming Castaway #'s and birth dates?

Also, we're thinking of bringing my SIL with us (who would need her own room, so I guess we put one of the kids with her on the reservation?). Do we book 2 rooms as a dummy? If it turns out she can't come, can we just put our child back in our room and cancel the extra?

Thanks for your help

If they have your Castaway Club #'s that should be all they need but just in case, they put in birthdates and addresses.

As far as making a second dummy booking for the same cruise, yes, and put someone else on the reservation for the second room with your SIL. It will save money over being a single. You have up until the cancellation date (usually 90 days for Alaska cruises, I think) to cancel without penalty. But if you wait too long, you do run the risk of not being able to move your son back into your cabin. If the ship starts to fill, and the cabin you are in has a full lifeboat station, they won't let you add him back to your reservation even if the room you are in can accommodate him. So the sooner SIL can commit, the better off you are. Unless you are sure there would be someone else to book into that second cabin.

When your parents book onboard, they can only book 2 cabins that get full OBB perks, (must be for same sail date).
I haven't booked >2 since the rule changed but IIRC any more than 2 cabins booked will only get the OBC, not the discount.

I would book one room with an extra person who can be dropped whether your SIL goes or not. This can be done until the PIF date. That way, if your SIL cancels you will ensure that your son can be put in your room. You would simply do a name change replacing the extra person's name with your son's. Yes you will pay a little extra for that 6th person's deposit initially, but the refund can go to the balance of the cruise cost and you will have piece of mind.

If I understand correctly, your parents only are cruising and doing the booking?

If so, they can only book two rooms with the full OBB perks. Each of them would be the heads of each stateroom. They could book a third room at regular rates and name someone else as the primary.

They cannot book a dummy on your behalf if that's what you mean.

If all of you are traveling, you probably already have two staterooms so each household could book up to two staterooms.

This is not correct. You don't have to book yourself in any room that you do an OBB. I could cruise and book two rooms with full OBB benefits with people not even in my family. The guests booked in those rooms don't matter.

True but then OP's parents cannot book a future cruise for themselves. I guess if they don't mind, they could book for just OP and her SIL.

Yes, but from the first post this isn't an issue. If they do want to book another cruise for themselves, I suggest they use the 2 OBB with full benefits as discussed above with the two rooms for the OP. They can book another date for themselves with just the OBC, but if I was the OP I would pay her parents 10% of that room [split with SIL] so they would still realize their full savings. Yes they would have to pay the full deposit, but really that isn't a discount since you have to pay it at the PIF date. The OP would still save on their reservation, just not the full 10%, and would also have the OBC.
