Who can give some insight on how the game room works ? While we have cruised several times, we have yet to let our son use the game room. How should I plan ? How can we pay for the games ? Can we load a card or something separate from the room key ? TIA

You use your room key to purchase "coins" on a card. This card also accumulates the "tickets or points" from winning certain games. When your child has accumulated enough points for a prize (large vending machine thing inside of the gameroom that holds prizes) they will swipe the card and sellect which prize they want. Try to keep a mental count of coins used and tickets won. We had a few cards that would drop either one or both. We had to go to CS and they credited back the card. I have a feeling that they can see the history of the card to eliminate those who are not being truthful about the losses.

Also don't let your husband drink and then go in there... to this day he pesters me about the $10 a pop string game that I didn't stop him from playing! In my defense it WAS his birthday and he was SO SURE he would get it the second time...

We set a time limit and amount everyday. Usually one hour or less.
He really enjoys the games but there is so much to do. Hate to see him in there all day.
He used money earned thru chores so he would appreciate spending his own money a little more!

Why do they even have these arcade rooms? We've already paid a fortune to be on the ship, couldn't they let the games be included too. I know they can play some video games in the kids clubs so we did not let DS into the arcade.

It's DCL's version of a casino.

What age is appropriate for the game room? Is it like a chuck e cheese or more geared toward teenagers?

Thanks guys!
Your responses were so helpfu! My son will be 11 when we cruise, and being the youngest of 5 (with the other 4 siblings all adult age) and thought this may be a good extra "option" for him this cruise. We have yet to explore the game room option. I thought if us adults are busy this may be another (and new) idea for him!
My plan is to purchase a gift card for him for his Christmas Day Birthday....I always run out of creative ideas for birthday/Christmas gifts all on the same day! LOL. He can get the game card loaded at guest services then, for some fun game room time! I love hearing about the prize machine, what a fun new adventure this can be for him!

There might be a couple of things the little ones could try, but's it's really an Arcade with all those type games. More suited towards at least school-age; the tweens and teens groups often will have an "invade the arcade" evening. Similar to the WDW resorts. We avoid such places -- DD loves to "play" but honestly has no clue what she's doing and runs through credits like there's no tomorrow.

Enjoy your cruise!

I agree with above. $20 card lasted my kid about 7 minutes. No kidding. You've successfully avoided it so far, why in the world would you want to go in there now? I tell my kids, if they're with the clubs and they do an invasion, fine. But I'm not paying for any video time on a several thousand dollar vacation. Go ahead and call me an ogre. JMHO

Haha. Yep I hear ya. There is a reason we haven't sent any of our kids to the game room.....
However, in this case with this particular child/situation for our upcoming cruise we thought it may be a fun option. Especially if he gets a gift card from us or siblings for his birthday. It will be fun for him to handle the gift card ( like get to guest services and change it to a game card) and he sure will learn a lesson if he blows through a 20$ card in 7 minutes! LOL. I bet he won' t do that again if it's his allowance money. LOL
In all fairness it will really just be a fun thing for my ten year old, we really have done everything else that is included and I bet 99% of the time that 's what we'll (he'll) be doing again! This is why I was wondering how it even worked, so as he wouldn't be able to play endlessly on his room key or something! I like this "get a game card" plan! When you're done, you' re done..... On to the included fun!

Just make sure he doesn't also have charging privileges on his KTTW card if you want it restricted to a certain amount for game play. They are able to recharge the game cards at the arcade, and there are reports of older teens getting younger kids with charging privileges to refill their cards for them.

Enjoy your cruise!
