? about applying for Affordable Care Act

Mods, if we can't talk about this, please delete.

If I'm able to get a hold of someone tomorrow on the helpline, I'll be sure to ask......When applying for the Affordable Care Act, when filling out annual household income, do you have to include tax free income? My DH receives a pension from the VA every month which is tax free. Anyone know?

You likely will have to disclose all income. Most of the questions are income related.

About three weeks after applying you'll receive a letter/package from, I believe, the IRS with information about what plans you are eligible for, how much they'll cost, what the details are, etc.

Q: How will income be defined?

A: Income is defined as total income in excess of the filing threshold ($10,000 for an individual and $20,000 for a family in 2013). In most cases, household income is the same as what you file on your income tax not simply all the income of all the people who live with you.

What type of income can be counted in MAGI (modified adjusted gross income)?

• Self-employment net profit
• Social Security benefits
• Unemployment benefits
• Alimony received
• Most retirement benefits
• Post investment income
• Rental or royalty income
• Other taxable income such as canceled debts, cash support, gambling prizes, and foreign earned income
