I've heard so many bad things from the boards and the podcast that we've never even bothered to try going -and I think it will probably stay that way. We can eat excellent italian anytime, why eat mediocre when we're on vacation.

We ate here a few years ago and was not impressed with the food or service but my DS really wants to try this again on our next trip (he loves pasta) but I am reluctant and I can only see a couple of dishes that he might like - one of which is "Spaghetti substitute sweet Italian sausage" but I am not sure what that means - is it the spaghetti or the sausage that is the "substitute" and with what is it substituted? Anyone tried this?

That would be the spaghetti and meatball dinner, but taking out the meatballs and adding the sausage.

We normally eat at Tony's for lunch but this time we are going for dinner, and from what I understand there is a steak there that is pretty good which I can't wait to try. OP, I am sorry that you had a bad experience at Tony's, at least now you can check mark that one off of your Disney must try list .
I agree Coral Reef and Tony's were also the worst 2 restaurants during our week long stay

We don't go there often, simply because there are so many other places that are favorites, but I wouldn't hesitate to book it.
I have to agree with you, we had a last minute lunch here on our last trip. We actually enjoyed our meals, we would'nt hesitate to go back again.

We really enjoy Tony's. It's not Gourmet Italian food. But we enjoy the food, we love the service, theming and location.

DD18 loves Tony's. We've had lunch there twice, and I am constantly trying to get a dinner reservation for 10/21 (I'd cancel Teppan Edo for it, she loves Tony's so much).

It's average italian food, but we've always had amazing servers, I love the decor, I love being able to look out the big windows... no complaints here whatsoever.
Potential Spring 2015 and Fall 2016 trips on the horizon, but who knows!

OMG, I'm going there for lunch in a few weeks, I hope I have a good experience. Those of you who enjoyed your food-what might you recommend? I was looking at the soup, the Caesar salad w/grilled chicken, the calzone, and the dessert that (I think) had pistachio-was it pistachio creme brûlée?

We have eaten there twice and enjoyed both meals. The pork shank was great as was the ravioli meal I had this past trip. I think most complaints are about anything with marinara sauce with regards to the food. We have had good service both times as well.
