Will they ever put bar codes on their mugs?

I haven't been to Disney (and stayed on property) in a little while. So, my question is about mugs. I understand they are giving a mug with the DDP which can be used at resorts and restaurants too I am guessing....Anyway, have they switched over to giving a mug with a bar code which would mean you'd have to scan it first to get the drink to come out or are they still just regular mugs? Just curious as I know many use old mugs. Thanks!

I don't think you can use "old mugs" at drink stations at the resorts anymore, they have figured out a way to put a stop to that.

DD and I just got back from a week at POR, we bought the mugs ($17.99 each for length of stay) and they look the same as before (come in green, purple and orange) but have a chip in the bottom so when you set the cup on the spot to fill it, you hear a chime and a digital display comes on the front of the machine showing you the date you can continue refilling your mug. And they say not to put the mug in the microwave, because of the chip in the bottom.

Oh that makes perfect sense. I figured they would come up with something to deter "old mugs" but I just wasn't sure what it would be Thanks!!

More info - http://allears.net/din/mugs.htm.

As you can see, there are various time lengths available which is nice if you are planning on a day or two at the resort pool, you can purchase just that amount of time on a mug.

I would like the option to maybe pay $10 or so for a "length of stay" RFID chip instead of getting yet another mug. I have a full set of mugs for 12-non matching of course-from cruises, different resorts (Hilton Head and Vero and the Old Wilderness Lodge exclusive mugs.) I don't mind paying again, just don't need another mug.

Can't use them at restaurants or parks. Only at drink stations at resorts.

I too would like the option of reloading mug instead of buying new one. We go 2x a year. It would be a much greener option for those that go often.

I was hoping for new mugs also. Tired of the same mugs year after year. Walking through the food court on the way to our room after checking in I saw a woman with a pink mug and a black mug. I was happy because the last two I have were blue. Went back to the food court to get our mugs and have something to eat and found out that they were orange, green & purple. Lady must have been surprised to find out she couldn't use her old mugs. Best part was I was at ASMo then saw her the next day at ASMu with her 2 mugs again trying to get some soda. Then I saw a man with a mug and a large thermos getting coffee

We will be staying at Pop in March. If one morning, my sister and I wanted to just explore the different hotels, would our mug RFID chip work to allow us to grab drinks at other resorts or are we only allowed to get drinks from Pop?

I believe they are good at any resort, unlike the previous mugs.
