Sea Trek Helmet Dive – Grand Cayman

Already planning ahead for our next cruise, lol!

Anybody ever been on this excursion? It looks cool, but also a little freaky/claustraphobic! How does the water NOT get up into the helmet????

If you have not taken this excursion, what excursion did you take in Grand Cayman and what did you think?

When I visited Grand Cayman on one of Disney cruises I did the scuba diving excursion (you have to be a certified scuba diver) and it was one of my favorite dives.

I can't help you with your claustrophobia because each person is different but the helmet will not flood because of the air pressure and with a constant flow of oxygen you are able to breathe.

I've done this in Hawaii. It's a very novel experience, and I didn't feel in the lease claustrophobic, but as the PP said, that's really an individual thing. They have a large viewing area, so I really did not feel closed in. You have air constantly pumped into the helmet, and that keeps the water out. You also have a microphone and speakers so that you can communicate with the others & the leaders. It definitely was a fun experience.

The only downside I saw, and I don't know if this is true in Grand Cayman or not, was that, since we were walking on the bottom surface, we had to keep away from the rocky areas. And the rocky areas are where the largest groups of fish are. So we didn't see as many fish as we probably would have if we'd been snorkeling. But I still enjoyed it, and thought it was worth doing.

This was an AMAZING excursion. It was probably one of my top 3 I have done on any itinerary (including Alaska). The air keeps the water out of the helmet. Just like putting a cup in the water upside down. I would recommend it to anyone. The area they take you to is sandy and roped off. There are a lot of fish and they will have food for you to attract even more fish and feed them. You can google it and se a few videos.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you have to be a strong swimmer??? Do you enter from the beach or actually dive? How deep is it?

Okay, I just found the website! They have loads of pics, FAQs and even a demonstration video!

It sure looks like a very cool and once-in-a-lifetime experience. Which is kind of what I'm going for. My idea is to do things with my kids that they may never get to do again, and make memories they will remember forever.

I'll have to share all this info with them and see how they feel about it. It looks amazing!

Thanks again!

I did this in Bermuda years ago.
The reason we picked this excursion was specifically bc I was not a great swimmer.
It was really fun. It was a while ago, so our helmets didn't have mics in them.
