So you find a giant spider web...

And guarding it is an equally giant spider. Both are outside. Do you leave it alone or do you take down the web and kill the spider?

Just curious what most people would do. My family is horrified that I insist on leaving them alone (as long as they aren't in the way of any "traffic").

First there was one giant web and spider and now there are three. But I see that beautiful web and I just can't bring myself to do it. And some small part of me does worry that these spiders will start enacting revenge on me if I don't keep my distance.

Outside? I leave them. Spiders belong outside. Inside? That spider is going down. Literally down the toilet. After I'm done shrieking. And my husband comes to smush it.

As long as the spider is not harmful it stays.

If the web is in my way I will knock it down.

However we have tiny spiders living in my siding. They are annoying to no end. I need to power wash them off today. If it were closer to Halloween, they could be "eco friendly" decorations.

i would leave it alone.
this reminds me on the stay we had at the contemporary several years ago. we would head out before the morning dew had evaporated and there were several large and intricate spider webs sprinkled with drops of dew on some landscaping bushes that we passed by. they were absolutely gorgeous with the sun shine on them. works of art!

This just happened to me, it was on the outside of our garage. I used half a can of Raid on it! My husband would have left it alone but I do NOT like spiders (I was gagging and freaking out every time I saw it) so it had to go.

Well, going by the number out there dh's plan is to leave them alone. I am terrified of spiders so chances are they will be gone shortly.

I would absolutely leave it alone. I am not a fan of spiders in general, but they are part of the whole ecosystem. Those webs catch a lot of mosquitos and other bugs we don't like. I also find it an engineering marvel. They work so hard and it is an amazing piece of architecture. The webs usually don't last through a hard wind or rainstorm though.

I only get rid of webs attached to things I need to move or access ( my car, trashcans) and I try to leave the spiders alone. I have some amazingly beautiful webs on my porch right now. When the sun hits them...wow. They're amazing to see.

I leave them alone unless they are in a doorway or on my son's playhouse or anywhere we might run into them.

I noticed that during a small storm last week the oldest and largest web was shredded. Two days later it was good as new and that monster spider was back in the middle waiting for a meal. I was amazed. He/she seemed to stare me down while I marveled at it, as if to say, "I just dare you to mess with my hard work."

I just read a newspaper article abt the increase in large garden spiders in mid to northern Alabama this year. They attribute it to the climate conditions this summer.

I love to see the webs of the large spiders in my yard and know they are eating hundreds of other bugs.

Depends on where it is. Out of the way and outside, not a problem. Right in front of my door or inside where I can see it, I'm getting a broom.

If it's near my doorway, bye bye spider. If not, I'll leave it alone. Oh and of course if it's a black widow, it's gone no matter where it is. We see those quite often around here, but usually under rocks and wood.
