Question for those who have had a cruise cancelled

Our cruise has just been cancelled and I am scrambling for alturnatives. I understand they will (probably) pay cancelled flight fees but will they also make up the difference in cost? I am trying to pick an alturnative that will not cost us too much more.

Unfortunately, I doubt if they will cover the difference in cost for the airfare. But maybe the 25% discount will help?

Good luck rescheduling!

No, they won't make up the difference in the cost of the cruise.

I think your cruise is safe, as the 10 day dry dock begins Jan 19th. They are not going to shelve a ship during peak holiday periods.

The OP might be referring to one of two cruises on the Wonder - January 19 and 24, 2014. DCL has advised of "a full refund, plus a 25% discount on a future Caribbean or Bahamian sailing up to 7 nights in length, taken within one year of your original voyage, excluding holiday sail dates." We were to sail on the 1/24 Wonder but am making alternate plans. Fortunately for us, we planned to drive to Florida so airfare changes are not an issue for us.

Wait a minute, I've been away and missed this. DCL has cancelled 2 January cruises? Are those sailings being chartered? Is it for the dry dock?

No charter, but for "unplanned maintenance".

Yes, for a quick dry dock.

Thanks! I just started poking around and read about the fire. It's awful to have to cancel cruises but if they need to get major work completed, it has to be done.

I am sick over the cancelled cruise. We booked our first Disney Cruise for the January 19th sailing. We are coming from Canada and have non refundable flights booked already. We have rebooked for February 2nd, but the cost to change our flights is ridiculous. With the 25% discount to rebook, this is where we stand.

Original Cruise Rebooked Cruise

Cruise Amount $2,653.68 $2,101.18

Onboard Credit -$200.00 -$125.00

Flight amount $2,194.00 $3,056.00

Change Fees $904.00

TOTAL $4,647.68 $5,832.18

I am just sick over this. Just sick. Our once in a lifetime family vacation that we've been saving for has just gone up in price by $1200. We just can't afford that. And if we cancel all together we lose $2200 from our non-refundable flight. I can't believe this...it's turned into a nightmare.

Sorry you are having to deal with this, but I thought DCL was covering change fees? I'm assuming your OBC is through a TA and unfortunately DCL can't control that...maybe the TA will take pity and give the full OBC offered for the original cruise? I'd certainly ask. But by my math, with DCL covering the change fees and not counting the OBC at all, your expenses have increase by just over $300. Any chance you could adjust your arrival and/or departure dates to bring down the airfare? Sometimes adjusting by even a day can make a big difference, enough to cover hotel and meals for the extra night.

Good luck and enjoy your rebooked cruise!

Would cruising on the 1/19 Dream work? Assuming you are flying into Miami, would renting a car and heading to Port Canaveral for the cruise and booking a hotel post-cruise work with regard to your flight dates? I know driving 3.5 or so hours would be a pain (Miami to PC), but it may be less $$$ since your flights may not have to change.

Just thinking outside the box.

For the length of the flights, etc. I really wanted to do a 5 night cruise. We're considering maybe cancelling the cruise, driving to WDW and doing that instead? I don't know...my head is spinning...

The email said to send your change fees to "email address" for consideration. They haven't confirmed what if any they will pay. I have sent the email on and we'll see what they come back with. My agent thought that most cruise companies covering change fees have a max of $150 per person. That would be $600, bringing the difference to $600 or so. I'm hoping the airfare may drop in the next couple of weeks but I'm not holding my breath. I've been getting daily updates for that flight for months and I haven't seen any price even close to what I booked it at when it dropped for 2 days a few months ago.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. We are considering all of our options. I am looking forward to hearing from DCL about what changes fees they will cover as then we can really narrow down our options...
